M54 I6 CCV Delete
Can this really be done? Here is link from an e46 forum and several people have done this. Has anyone tried this on their X5 with the M54 engine?

It can be done since we share the same engine as the E46. However, that method isn't preferable as our engines like to have a slight negative vacuum when running. Venting to the atmosphere would take away that vacuum pressure.
There are many guys that have done a non-vented catch can install with reports that it is running fine for them. Is that a catch can? Yes it is. Goodbye CCV - Page 8 - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums I believe user smolck had a great setup on his ZHP and has a few YouTube videos showing its operation too. It's been posted on this forum before. |
+2 on not a good idea to vent to atmosphere. It has been reported to cause piston ring flutter. I was looking into doing this as well. I'm on the beta test list with this. Just waiting for them for the beta release. If nothing comes to fruition by the fall, I will be converting to a catch can method on both my X3 and X5.
G.A.S. M54 CCV System Replacement |
GD, I'm in for the G.A.S. fix if we can get them motivated to get this in and out of beta testing. I'm on their email list once its done. Anything we can do to motivate G.A.S. to get this to market?

Its gonna take a lot of testing because of the vacuum boys. That's why it's taking so long. I don't think its a question of whether Gary wants to release the product as much as there is a lot of things to work around.
Doru and me exchanged pms a couple months back as he talked to Gary more about the hiccups with the GAS CCV kit and if he can shed some light in this thread it might be helpful bc he can explain the challenges of changing the system better than I can. |
Thanks for all of the replies. I am having a mechanic do my VCG next week and I want to get rid of the CCV while I am at it. I think I will wait for the GAS part.

I'm really contemplating doing a catch can for the M54, I made one for my M62 540i and its been working great for about a year now. Hopefully it's as easy to do as on the V8.
