Air/vacuum hose perished, what does it do?

let me start by saying I had a look for this part in the realoem.com diagrams (there was no description in 'fuel injection system' parts diagram, but it looks like #7), and don't have a Bentley manual, but I am concerned about how soon I should replace this line - it comes from the large rubber 'boot' from the front air intake side of the throttle butterfly, via a kind of nipple attachment from the boot; the hose goes through above the cylinder head under the engine cover and disappears... any idea what this ruuber hose is for, as it easily disintegrated in my hand, the same way that the window rubbers perish out here in the heat!

Tank vent?

Could be... seems like a long way to go to vent the fuel tank though?? (Not one to disparage the design, but...)

Original design - they have since done away with this hose. Theory is that the hose is a EPA safeguard in the event the CCV diaphragm leaks (would return crankcase gases back to the intake). You can discard the hose assembly and plug that intake port - leave nipples on valve covers (CCV caps) open. New OEM CCV caps are no longer available with hose nipples and are open for diaphragm operation.

Thanks a lot for the tip off; interesting history with the recommended parts swap (SIB of 2009) to avoid possible 'complete engine failure' due to frozen condensation in the CCV system... will block off the port in the intake boot & try to find some time for DIYing this weekend
