Double Din Stereo Install?
I'm trying to install a Double Din after market stereo in my 2002 X5 so I can have access to my phone, music, a back up camera and the kid can watch movies in the back seat. Does anyone know if I really have to cut out the factory bezel? I've found a couple of installation tutorials on Youtube and they seem to skip over this part of the process. Thanks for the help....

Before you cut anything.... it's obvious you don't have the answers you need. My only recommendation is to find one installed then contact the owner if possible.
I have the same issue but in a different light: I have factory nav and DSP. Try finding a system or anyone daring enough to try. I waited for the new Pioneer x000NEX Series. Most reviews say there's bugs. |
The factory bezel is removable I believe.
I'm running a Pioneer AVIC HD1BT with DLS 3 way components up front and 2 Orion 10's in the boot. 2 JL Audio amps running everything and I originally had the full OE options of NAV and DSP. My friend did the headunit side of things and pretty sure he removed the bezel as opposed to cut it out. Will check with him tomorrow |

I have my Appradio3 running through factory DSP system.
Sounds great. |
Took the centre air vent out, hoping maybe there were a couple of hidden screws there that would do the trick... no luck. That bezel is huge and wraps behind the dash on the passenger side and the instrument panel on the driver side.....

I had to cut the center bar off .. in your picture above ^ to fit the aftermaket nav unit in there.

Apologies but yes you will need to cut it. I had the factory satnav screen hence te aperture already there so no need to cut.

Yes,
I followed this instruction to cut dash.. http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...installed.html This is what I ended up putting in. http://www.xoutpost.com/members/kevi...-installed.jpg |

http://www.xoutpost.com/members/jwil...45-photo-3.jpg I've seen tutorials about relocating the MID to the glove box or the rear of the car to trick the amp into turning on, but I'm not really interested in that option either. Would like to avoid completely rewiring the entire vehicle for an aftermarket amp. Am I asking too much!? :dunno: |
The trick component is the CD player. Mine is wired in back where the CD changer would be. It is a simple matter of four wires attached into the cd changer wires (no cutting). The mid wires were extended to reach the glove box. It is much easier than it sounds.
I am shocked daily how good it sounds, so good I sold my amps and have my speakers sitting on a shelf. |
Done! Cut the bezel. With the wiring harness I got from Crutchfield with the stereo, installation was easier than we expected.
