Broken Diff
Hi, I am Angus, I have just joined the forum in the hope that someone can help. I have a 3.0l d sport X5 and the rear Diff has gone, given up the ghost, I am going to remove it tomorrow and try and get a replacement, I have never done anything like this before so any info or tips would be appreciated.

Suggest you buy a service manual so you have some procedures, and the required bolt torque values.
Make sure the vehicle is safely on jack stands and there is no risk of it falling on you. |
I haven't done a swap on the E53, but it was easy on my E36. Remove and replace. Get new output shaft bolts was what I needed to do for the E36. They were a torx bolt head, so I needed to get a new socket set. Put in new fluid and check the seals on the diff you swap in. I can look in the Bentley later when I get home and see if anything specific for the E53s.
Cheers. |
Cheers JCL but workshop manuals seem to be hard to come by in the UK. However the car is safely up on ramps, just a matter of getting stuck in

I believe the Bentley manual is available at local booksellers. Check that it has sufficient details on the diffs.
