Another Selflevel susp inact thread...back really high!!
 

Over the weekend I got the Selflevel Susp. Inact light pop up. I've done a lot of reading but haven't really found the same things as mine did.

2005 x5 4.4i

I got the light and turned the car off and didn't notice anything weird about the suspension. Overnight tho, the back of the car got really high (the front looks like normal height tho). There were no popping sounds or anything out of the ordinary aside from the back being high and it being a really bouncy, nauseating ride.

I checked the fuses on the rear but not the relays - how can I check those myself? I plan on taking it to an indi shop this week but I was wondering what could cause this? I want to try an eliminate any simple things before I take it shop. Any ideas?

With all the air suspension issues, proper diagnosis is key with GT1/DIS.

However, the back shooting up high is usually indicative of an issue with the level sensor, either the sensor arm got flipped, or the sensor itself is dead. Take care of it soon though because that compressor is working overtime to jack up the rear and you don't want to burn it out.

Quick question. On the 05, will the sensor be on the rear passenger or rear driver's side? Might be a good idea to know this before I start jacking up my car in my office's parking garage, ha.

both side have level sensors.

Turns out I have a bad alt and it burned through my EHC Control Module.

Can I only get the part through BMW? It should be pretty easy to replace, right?

You need the module coded however once its replaced, prob needs to go to the dealer although the EHC module for the 1-axle is like 180 bucks so its not as bad. 2 Axle modules are like 700

I'm pretty sure it's the 1-axle EHC (I think the they call the 2-axle an EHC2, plus it's not as expensive for their quote)

So would this be something I should just get done at the dealer? They are charging $250 for the module. For the part and installation (and programming) it would be around $550.

The EHC module seems pretty easy to get to and replace? right?

Yes I would obtain myself and just install it myself, then take it to the dealer for coding.

The module is right by the battery area or in the spare tire compartment I think.

Coding the module shouldn't be more than an hour labor, 300 bucks for install and coding is a ripoff in my opinion

Yep! That's what I was thinking. In 5 mins, I was able to find an indi shop that will reprogram after i install for $95!
