Detailing & Interior care products
Hello fellas, just wondering which product you guys like to use on the X..especially the leather care....
I have 2005. Leather is still in good shape....except sadly the edges of the driver seat and the armrest is fading.. What do you guys use on the door panel around the wooden trim? I usually prefer the natural matte finish, not such a fan of the deep high gloss finish. Lexol Premium 3-in-1 Leather Care Spray, Lexol leather care, leather cleaner protectant Eco Touch Leather Care, Eco Touch Leather Cleaner Conditioner which other products do you guys use.... I just used this : Meguiars Ultimate Black, trim restorer, trim protectant, plastic restorer works amazing on the front grills and hood vents roof rails as if they were new...for the side skirt and running board, it looks great at beginning but doesn't last long..Work a lot better on the grills/vents. Let me know if you like pics. |
Just took delivery of this the other week: https://www.detailersdomain.com/mobi...e.asp#page-103
Was hoping to test it out in the next day or 2 on the X so I'll let ya know. I can say that the scents are quite muted (which I like....nothing worse than those overpowering smells you get from the average cleaners). The hardware (brush, pads & MF towels look pretty good as well. |

I use 3 products on my interior.
1Z cockpit on all interior surfaces as an interior protectant and quick detailer. 1Z deep plastic cleaner for carpets, deep cleaning dirty dash panels, and deep cleaning seats before applying conditioner. And 1Z Einszett Lederpledge on my leather as a condiioner. No shine and no gloss just a nice factory matte finish with a clean scent on all products. All purchased from Phil @ Detailers Domain, our sponsor. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/06/reqypuse.jpg This is after a recent cleaning and yes the cockpit spray is good on wood and all interior surfaces, hell I cleaned my leather motorcycle jacket with it recently. |

I like the gray you have in there. Is it factory or how did you get it done? |

Better late than never....
Finally got around to using the Masters leather kit I previously mentioned from DD. Nothing short of amazing stuff. Super easy to use, and the cleaner is extremely effective at pulling out the dirt. Took this pic just after I had just tried some of the "Strong cleaner" on half the seat bottom.....Essentially wiped it on with the foam applicator, and off with a MF towel. This was the result: http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/t...5.jpg~original The stuff requires minimal agitation to pull dirt out (great for us lazy people), and doesn't leave any obtrusive smells. The ONLY complaint I have, is that in the case of the Range Rover (which, just about everything inside is leather) I cant see this kit lasting more than a year before refills are needed. |
I use Lexol leather cleaner and Surf City Garage leather conditioner. I dilute Meguiars APC+ to 10:1 and use that for scuffs on the kick panels. Otherwise, I'll use a damp rag or a steam cleaner (rarely as I'm too lazy to bring it out) to wipe down the rest of the interior.
|
wow Ricky, your interior looks amazing.v:thumbup:
I gotta look into IZ cockpit. The price seems quite fair, and from your result, man it looks nice. :( the other day, i applied some interior shampoo on seat and the rag was so dirty so this wknd, i need some serious TLC time for the cockpit. thanks |

How's the result and scent of the SCG leather conditioner? what's the wait period between using the cleaner and then the conditioner? Also, did you use the Meg APC also on the dashboard, leather seats, door panel, or just the dash and panel? lol, thanks sorry for the million Questions :dunno: |
I just apply the Lexol cleaner to all seats and then buff the excess off. Then I go around and do the SCG conditioner afterwards. I don't time anything out. The conditioner scent isn't repulsive, but not the best smelling thing in the world. It just gives a leather smell.
I just use APC+ on soiled areas. The dash never gets dirty, only dusty. The only place where your foot could kick and scuff is where I use APC+. Otherwise, a steam cleaner or just a damp rag and elbow grease is enough to clean the interior for me. APC+, when diluted 10:1, is safe on any interior surface, including leather, so you can use it for any type of cleaning if you so desire. |
I have been using Griot's products for the last 15 years and would recommend them as they provide consistant results with normal applications.
Car Care Products, Detailing Supplies, Auto Accessories - Griot's Garage 800-345-5789 Recommendations Interior General Cleaning Interior Cleaner. Works great on everytype of surface in our cars. Cleans carpets and door panels. Leather Care - Great stuff Vinyl & Rubber Dressing- no greasy residue like ArmorAll and no over shiny results. Blue Detail Sponges- how to apply Speed Shine® Use on all the shiny trim peices, like shifter console area, etc. Tooth brushes for all the carpet around the stationary parts- foot rests, gas pedal, seat tracks, etc. Steam cleaner is the only way to go if your interior looks like a 8 year old minivan that had scoccer duty one too many times. Miracle worker. Use detailers supply to get your grit guards for your wash buckets. Everyone has their own thought so pick out the products that make sense to you and get scrubbin'. I hate these postings as I went and ordered another $100 bucks worth of stuff after looking at everyone's postings. Wash, dry, drive, repeat. |
Can i ask what you guys use on the upper dash of the X5?
Its a textured finish and matt finish. I went to use ArmourAll on it, then realised it was going to make it a glossy mess. |

As posted before: I have been using Griot's products for the last 15 years and would recommend them as they provide consistent results with normal applications. Car Care Products, Detailing Supplies, Auto Accessories - Griot's Garage 800-345-5789 Recommendations Interior General Cleaning Interior Cleaner. Works great on every type of surface in our cars. Cleans carpets and door panels. Leather Care - Great stuff Vinyl & Rubber Dressing- no greasy residue like ArmorAll and no over shiny results. Blue Detail Sponges- how to apply The Vinyl & Rubber Dressing works PERFECT on our dashes as it will not create a sticky dirt collection site and the finish looks like Factory clean not oily. It has UV protector in it also. On the Armor All side, there is a trick to make it work correctly. Apply a heavy coat of product, allow it to soak in for 24 Hrs. Re spray until all the areas are evenly coated. May take 2-3 coats. Mist Spray one last time and wipe down with a Microfiber cloth. These steps will provide a mat finish. Works GREAT underhood also on all that plastic covers and hoses. |
Thanks Stephen, i appreciate the explanation.
I did read the whole thread and your previous post. Just wasn't 100% sure regarding the textured dash. Great, now to find that product in Oz :( DO you have a link for the exact product for the dash, your post has me a little confused still. Not sure if you are mentioning 5 products or 1? |
Sorry for the delay. I was reading the post on an IPad and did not see the last line. here is the link to Griots.

i have a pair of 8oz leatherique bottles waiting to get used. we need another hot day or two for me to get them cracking. but from what i read, the effects are astounding. too bad they're expensive - 35 bucks or so for the 8oz variant

+1 on Griots Garage products. I use Leather Care for the Leather and their Interior Cleaner is excellent. Been using their products since I got my X. The leather care leaves an awesome leather smell. I've gotten so many compliments on the smell, I've even got the "your car has that new car smell" a few times. I also use a bit of Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant on the dash and other vinyl surface.

For the rest of the interior it's Lexol leather conditioner and Lexol 1215 Protectant for the areas that are not Leather. Finally I use it on the black bumper, door guards, and wheel well trim. |
dash mat
1 Attachment(s)
I suppose it could be called the lazy way out, but almost all of my vehicles have a 'dash mat' to protect the dash from cracking and also to make driving easier (no glare).
With killer UV rays and very hot summers over here, it's only a matter of time before your dash is toast unless you use one of those horrid reflector thingies on your windscreen or have a dash mat. Simply fixed with some velcro (hook and loop) fasteners, so easy to remove and vacuum, plus it looks good too. |
Oh the lucky WA folk, still allowed to own and use an RD :)
The NSW Police wanted mine, and they handed me a $1430 fine and 10 demerit points for the privilege. Honestly, i don't find any glare for the dash of the X5, mostly because of the Matt Finish and texture i guess. |
Ouch! 10 demerits and a big fine - that's criminal! I always though the cops in NSW looked a bit like Gestapo in their leather jackets...
Just a matter of time for us I think... I've got laser jammers in the SRT-8 (as well as a good RD), but I think they're being banned soon over here. Bloody fun police - over them I can assure you my friend. Should adopt the European (some countries) method and limit the speed according to the design/engineering of the vehicle, rather than bring everything down to the lowest common denominator. Seriously though - when I first bought my E53 I felt naked without the dash mat and despite the matt finish, I still found it to be a bit reflective at certain times of the day. My pizza box doesn't slide off anymore either...haha! |
