DEKA was brought out by Johnson Control.

Two words for when my battery goes...........LITHIUM ION!

Small, light, no explosive gas venting. Can drain/recharge with 100% life. MB has started using L-ion and others are following their lead.

Arent lithiums horrible in excess heat and cold? Correct me if im wrong - or maybe car tech ones have something special to overcome that...

I picked up a new Bosch battery a couple months ago. Group 43. Group 45. Whatever it takes.

$110 at pepboys.

Denis, you had to start another battery thread!!!!

lol

from what I had read over the years, the original battery supplied with the car can last about 4-10 years (very wide spread!!). the OE battery installed from a US dealer are NOT the same as the OE batteries installed at the factory - don't ask me why, probably has to do something with the logistics (i can understand it for non-US made cars, but the X and the Z??)

I would suggest going for the right size, maximum available crank-amps and the AGM - supposedly the AGM technology in acid batteries is the new sh!t!!!

I paid for mine (was it H8?) about $150 from Advanced Auto Parts - you go online, find the battery at your local store, pay for it there using their 20% coupon, and then come to the store and collect your battery... on top of that you get a $25 coupon for $50 purchase, so once you have a coupon, go online and order a set of 8 NGK plugs for $60-$25=$35

Voila!!!

1. What have you guys purchased instead of OE? AutoCraft Platinum AGM H8
2. What did you pay? About $130 after tax. I look up discount code online and use pick-up in-store option
3. How well did it fit? Fits great. Make sure you ask for the vent tube.
4. Where did you buy it? Advance Auto Parts.

Thanks in advance.

Many years ago, I went into Pepboys and looked at their booklet showing which batteries they had fit the X5. I then looked at their shelf and saw the correct Bosch battery, produced within the last 6 months, sitting there. I paid for it and walked out.

It wasn't any fancy AGM battery. It was just a stock replacement SLA battery. It was also made for the V8 X5's, but it was cheaper than the not available 3.0i 5 battery. Buying a battery isn't rocket science, especially if the X5 is a DD and it gets used often.
