p0011 and p0021 codes. Need Fix
Hello everyone I got those 2 codes and my engine is running like a 20 year old diesel . I searched on the web and some are saying its the cam belt tensioner and some said the vanos need to be adjusted ( timing ) . Can anyone shed some light on what It will take to fix this and maybe some prices. Thank you
|
If you have the m62tu 8 cylinder (00-03) those codes usually mean early stage timing chain guide failure. I would check the chain guides and check the engine for sludge (usually sludge and chain guide failure go hand in hand).
|
Yes I have the 4.4 engine. And I am afraid I will need to replace them. What do you think it will cost to do this overhaul ?
|
are you trying to replace them yourself
|
No way not on a BMW. I have a good shop I use but in term or parts and labor what should I expect?. Also since I am in there should I replace other things ? Maybe a new chain as well?

P0011/0021 codes--Not good signs.
The timing is most likely off on both banks. I would not run the engine any more until you get it retimed in order to prevent catastrophic failure to the engine. Probably best to replace the chain guides and chain, too. This is labor intensive, $3-6K or more depending on labor cost and the work needed. Best to get BMW INDY to look it over. Did you rule out the VANOS solenoids and/or the camshaft sensors? |
Probably for $3800 or so
|
Holy s*** 3500 for trimming chain and adjuster ? how labor intensive is it?
|
Pretty involved

I don't have a problem doing it myself . the only thing is I don't have to much room to do it and I don't want to do all that work and mess up something else. I called 2 shops the first one quoted me 2300 and the second one asked me to bring It in to have it checked out . I don't know what I am going to do I still need to fix the rear leveling system as well . do you guys think I should fix it or just sell it...

I just read a thread by ///Bruce where a water pump swap on an '03 M62 cost $2800. :wow: Just did my pump (and new belts) for under $200 in one day. :bustingup It's a plus knowing everything was done right/not rushed, and torqued to specs. |

If you really like it, fix it. Try to DIY as much as possible. Never too late to start learning. Maybe paying a local DIYer (who knows what he's doing) to help you out. |
I called a shop that specializes in BMW they quoted me $2300 . I explained to them the situation and noise and they basically said they will need new chain guides tensioners etc. my question is once I do this and I decide to sell what can I expect to get for the car? I really love the car . but I still have to ad a new battery , fix the rear suspension and a few small things. can I expect to sell it for 8K If I fix all the issues?
Thanks |
