Drivers window slams shut
I've only had my 2003 X5 for a few weeks. The only issue I have {so far} is that the drivers window shuts really hard when I use the one touch feature. The window closes {and opens even} with a disturbing SNAP. I ease the window up because I'm afraid I'm gonna shatter the window or break the nylon hardware within the window regulator. What should I look at to make the window close smooth ?
I have also noticed when I shut the driver side door, it sounds like something isn't bolted down in the door. Best description of the noise is a hard rattle from behind the door panel when I shut the door. |
there are two plastic clips holding the glass - i bet one of them is broken and glass is riding only on one remaining one. get two clips from a dealer and r/r that glass ASAP

That's what I pretty much knew it would be. My '88 e32 750il had the same issues. My '88 had the same display pixel issues our x5's have.
Bad pixels, weak lock and window hardware, suspension bushings failing, rotors warping... Same "regular suspects" I encountered with my '88 750. I would have thought BMW would have re-engineered all of these little annoyances since then. Guess not. |

Why spend money to re-engineer a car to last forever. They make money on selling cars. As long as they last long enough for the original purchaser or within the warranty period that good enough. :bustingup |
More like they make their money on the parts that fail on a regular basis. Just like a number of other industries they could afford to place their equipment for cost because they'll make their money in service over the life of the vehicle. Why else would crappy, high failure items be a constant?

I wonder if the E53 windows would benefit from a hydraulic lifting mechanism, a la E67? (part 67826924227). I suspect that part is not subject to plastic failures... :)

Power windows on my 44 years old LOTUS are still working and never needed repairs. :bustingup |
