These e46 forum links could prove helpful:
Just because it's a 3 series, doesn't mean that the issue/solution can't be extrapolated to the e53. They both can have an M54 engine :)

I will re-confirm this info tomorrow, but I believe the P1447 code refers to a loss of vacuum pressure in the fuel vapor lines between the engine, fuel tank, collection tank (charcoal canister) and the Fuel Evaporation pump. Could be gas cap, lines, or pump itself leaking.

Options: Put a new fuel cap on (OE only, as most are not a correct fit). Clear codes. Does the code return? In how short a period? One week- when the temp gets hot (mine!), only when you overfill the fuel tank? Right away? Etc, etc
The results will send you down a path to check other areas, lines, connections and replacing the pump itself as required. Can anyone confirm if the other type of diagnotic software will activate and test the Evap control pump for deeper insight on what is setting off the code?

Helpful? :dunno:

P1447 BMW - Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage Pump Too High During Switching

Well since I was hit on the passenger side rear bumper/tire, this code came up. Would a possible hit have jarred the fuel pump, fuel sender unit, or the lines to the fuel tank?

How long has the code been thrown for? Have you checked the gas cap? Not sure how the X's cap is, but a loose cap can cause this issue too - I've had it happen on my s2000 plenty. Usually takes a bit of driving after tightening the cap before it clears up. Hopefully your problem is that simple.

If you are getting this code after the accident mentioned above...then YES...the accident could have caused a leak since the gas tank filler tube and other vacuum recovery stuff is on that side of the car.

The expansion tank (#1) and the leak diagnostic pump {aka DMTL} (#15) plus all the VACUUM lines can be seen in the diagram below...and again, this stuff is located back in that area and something could have be crimped, cut, cracked, loosened etc from the impact of an accident.

Good luck, because you'll probably have to run down where this leak is coming from: (btw...thanks for having your build date in your signature...it was really helpful in looking up information that is specific to your model/model year/build date) :D

No, thank you for helping me out! I'm going to go ahead and mention it to the adjuster. The light came on shortly after the hit happened. Ugh...I hate having to have my vehicle repaired.

You ever figure out what it was for sure? Mine just threw this code.
