Electric/Aux Fan working and not working...

Hello Forum, I hope someone can drop some knowledge on me about the following:

This weekend it was hot as hell in NYC so I turn on my AC. I'm getting practically hot air except for when I'm in motion. NOW...this happened before and it turned out to be my Auxiliary fan that had to be replaced. This was over 2 years and some change ago. Here's the funny thing though. I pop the hold and look at the fan. It's motionless. I pull back the grill and give it a good manual spin and the thing fires up and starts spinning! I get back in the car and the ac is behaving rather nicely. I pull off but a few minutes later, the fan stops spinning and the hot air returns unless I'm in motion again. Obviously, the fan is functional because it DOES spin when I give it a manual whirl and it stays spinning at least for a little while. Can someone tell me their opinion on what they think it is?

My second conundrum is this irritating, chirping sound that seems to be coming from the alternator/area. It gets louder when the ac is on but stays chirping all the time when I'm idling at the light or in park. Thoughts?

BTW...I changed out my FSR last summerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png so all is good there....

Aux. fan is bad - I'd replace it first to see if the chirping goes away. It could be the a/c compressor is putting a drag on the belt because the system is not transferring heat correctly. There is a recall on replacement aux. fans manufactured by Valeo that may be applicable.

BMW fan or good aftermarket like Behr or some cheap crap brought on eBay? If it is just two years ago the fan should still be under warranty if it was a BMW fan. If not that why I tell people to buy a Behr fan or BMW instead of that cheap crap on eBay. You get what you pay for.

Aside the fan issue, I assume you have checked to see if the system is fully charged?

Haven't checked the pressure yet. Will do after I get back from a cruise. Also, recently its beginning to overheat with the thermostat going towards the red. It's done that twice since the hot weather began. Never did that before. Coolant level was fine, oil, etc. The engine fan is functioning as it should.

When was the thermostat, and water pump replaced?

Never. Speaking of the thermostat, in the winter it takes a loooooooong time for the car to heat up. On really cold days the heat never really kicks. It's just luke warm.

Get the truck scan. I bet you get an error code for the thermostat.

I kind of guessed that this is where that issue was coming from. I'll have my guy check it out when I get back.
