OEM Navigation?
Any suggestions for aftermarket navigation systems? My stock navigation LCD is dimming and has a growing spot in the bottom left corner of dead pixels. Started with one and it's grown so about the size of a dime.

You can replace just the LCD screen of your monitor. Part is about $120 and you can DIY it. Do a search here for "LCD" and you'll see a lot of threads on it.

Wouldn't that be a little like buying a new speaker for a 14 year old cassette player?

I'd love to change my head unit to one with better nav, SQ, etc...but having DSP, it's a pain in the ass for not much gain for me.
Just giving OP options to consider. |

I have yet to see an aftermarket solution that looks like it belongs. |

I can sell you mine for cheap when I throw it out- so outdated although functional (ehh, what is a cassette?) :D. I'm going to replace it with state-of-the-art dynavin which is absolutely OEM looking and just belongs.

interesting...
did somebody already try it out in an E53? why is it compatible with OPTIC parking system when ours is ACOUSTIC parking system? maybe a typo... So, it has a built-in DSP - does it really play well with factory DSP as it says it would? I'd like to see somebody try it out and document it - not that I will go this route myself, but it would benefit the folks who want to do it this way... |
Hmm, really? Thanks for the info X5only!
Is this the unit you have in your X? Can you give us your review on it? |
The Dynavin absolutely looks like it belongs.
If it truly supports DSP without much of a workaround, I definitely would look to install one in my E53. Please tell us more about DSP functionality. |
Guys, I don't have it as yet! The USA distributor says in his website that it will be available in the end of June. I'm just as eager to replace my outdated head unit and I have no affiliation to the product distributor or manufacturer.
This is a new dynavin model (N6) for the X5. The old one is model D99+ which I held off buying last year when I heard the new one will support OBC, DSP and PDC out-of-the-box and has better software including bug fixes in the previous model. Here's the local USA distributor to direct your questions. The guy is called Jeff: j&T Distributing 2385 S.Sarah,Fresno CA 93706,USA.

I just sent him an email, and checked out the N6, now I'm really excited as this is definitely the unit I was waiting for!
|
Hopefully the instructions provided with the unit is better then what is posted on their website.

Looks like the E46 guys are much ahead of us regarding the new Dynavin N6. Lots of great tantalizing info about the N6-E46 to get a feel of the N6-E53 model. That Jeff guy even has a prototype already of the E46 N6. per thread below. Great video of the N6 in there!

If replacing the LCDis simple enough i may just do that. In other scenario, I am wanting an auxiliary hook up for my iPhone to play audio. Currently I'm running a cassette tape with auxiliary cable hook up and the quality absolutely sucks. My stereo as far as I know is the standard hi-fi and has the six disc cd changer in the back of the truck. I have read before that it is extremely difficult and/or expensive to get an auxiliary hook up with the six disc changer? Really looking for the cheapest solution to this. Wife and I are expecting a new baby in October so money is tight right now in preparations.

Depending on the year of your ride, you might have an AUX input pre-wired behind the screen - all you need is cable from dealer, about $40-60, or build the cable yourself from the Radio Shack parts, about $5-10... That is if you have the AUX pre-wired...
|
if you want a cheap auxilary solution, check out this thread.
http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...tml#post998329 It cost me under $5 AUD to make the cable! Easy to install. The only hard part is deciding where you want the cable and feeding it through the console :) |
