Auxilary input installation
 

Does anyone know a good spot on the dash to drill in (1/4") auxilary input cable to run to the stereo? I have a Dynavin unit (which I will probably be selling pretty soon as the new Dynavin units will be released next month) and I need to have an aux input (as well as my spec dock) working again (I had to order a new spec dock as the cable for the old style 30pin broke, and rendered the spec dock useless). I was thinking of putting it where the console switches are (DSC, downhill, trunk release, PDC, etc) is, but I dunno if I can even drill into that (I've never even pulled that thing out before) I don't mind drilling into the dash as long as I know I'm not going to hit anything vital behind it. I just want to run the cable to connect to my unit.

Anyone done something similar?

Don't drill into the console switch or you screw up the circuit board for the entire switch array.

I connected an AUX cable to my CD player in my E53. In the ash tray area, i removed the light cover (simply pops out) then I fed the cable from the CD player through that hole and into the cabin. If you are interested I can take a few photos of it

Well I have a dynavin unit, but yeah, take a picture, I would like to know what you are talking about. In the ash tray area, I actually have a spec.dock so I can't fit anything there. Maybe right underneath the cigarette Lighter adapter...

run it to the central storage bin... do not drill A169 module (the PDC, heated seats module), that unit is one big piece - you drill it, you need to buy another unit...

what is the central storage bin? I want easy access on the dash somewhere. I was thinking of actually putting it near the rear cigarette lighter plug, there are 4 little "boxes" that I could drill a hole into.

central storage bin is the cavity under your right arm, where you might have a CD or cassette storage... the soft padded armrest can be lifted in two ways, one reveals little tray for pens and a small cell phone, the other partition opens up a little bit bigger cavity... easy to drill, relatively not easy to route wires, as you need a coat hanger to fish the wires, but definitely do-able...
