2005 X5 3.0 Automatic Transmission Problem
My new 2005 X5 3.0 is currently at my BMW dealer having the transmission valve body replaced. This vehicle has 300 miles on it. I just took delivery from the factory 2 weeks ago. The problem started as a series of "Trans Failsafe Program" events in which the transmission locks into second gear as a "limp home" mode. Has anyone else heard of other such early transmission failures in the X5?

No, it's not a common problem. Sorry that it affected yours, but at least it's fully covered under warranty and hopefully your dealer is providing a good loaner vehicle while yours is in for repairs.

Is the trans need to be replaced? or its sensor or valve etc..

i was on the feeway going 60, when all of the sudden the car jumped on me....now don't know what to do.....

mine did the same at 3000 miles they updated the software was ok for a week then went agian this time changed a control unit been fine since that was 7000 miles ago.

mine is currently being serviced for the same problem at approx 5900 miles on a 2004 3.0. What initially happened was that the car just jolted during deceleration under normal driving conditions and the battery indicator as well as the trans failsafe lights came on. I pulled over, cut the engine, and it never turned over again.

When mine went wrong, if you turned off the ignition for 30 mins was ok for ten miles ish I think the problem was with the control unit it thought the gearbox was over heating! but all fine now
