Hmmmm. My X is leaking oil again
Surprise! Another oil leak. Doesn't look too bad but it's there. I just discovered it this evening. Motor is too darn hot to really poke around - and since I've got my back-up car out of commission right now for a AC clutch repair I can't really take much apart tonight as I need to get to work in the morning.
Seems to be coming from the area right around the front tension-strut bushing on the passengers side. I popped off the intake hood gizmo and peered down there. Can't really see much. Nothing obvious anyway - although I can detect a little drop or two of oil from the bottom of the vacuum pump for the power steering with my hand. It's just too hot to touch much of anything because I just had it out for a ride.. That could be it but I don't see any oil below that spot. . Looking in the wheel well doesn't tell me anything obvious either. It could use a cleaning and the removal of the bottom splash plate to really tell what's going on - I know. I just don't have the time to fiddle with it tonight - yet I am sure I will l lay awake in bed and it will cause me to lose sleep - because that's how this stuff works for me. Any thoughts? Any sort of oil lines perhaps? See? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/09/ma6e5y5y.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Just did the valve cover gaskets and front timing cover gaskets a few months ago. Those appear dry as a bone!

Update. Looks like it was the brake-booster vacuum pump cover that was leaking. I pulled the cover, cleaned it up real good and put a little Permatex 98H High Tack Gasket Sealant on both sides of the o-ring that BMW doesn't sell....
I did see one company apparently does sell a gasket for it ~$18-$22 IIRC. Just took the X-for a spin and it's nice and dry.... |
