Self Leveling Suspension Inactive Message and Rear End Dropped

I have a 2006 BMW X5 with a dropped rear and Self Leveling Suspension Inactive. What might be the cause and how to repair?

check the fuse in back

I did and they are all good. Another thing I noticed that when I hit the unlock button on my key, the air compressor turns on and the car starts to go up a little bit but after a few seconds, I hear a hissing noise and the car drops again. I thought that it might be the air bags but why would both sides drop, unless they are linked together.

Maybe both bags are blown ....rare chance

Sounds like a compressor failure to me.

Defiantly a leaking airbag:)

Both sides would not be low from one bag & odds both bags were punctured critically at the same time is low.

Ok. What would cause a "bad" compressor to partially inflate the bags and then start hissing?

This same exact thing happened to me and both bags were shot.

Maybe the ops X is not going to sleep and he never noticed the other bag going bad..... Idk.

Both your bags blew at exactly the same time?

Unlucky.

Compressor outputting minimal pressure, comes on, bags begin to inflate, it stops creating pressure bags deflate.

They didn't blow. They both developed leaks. It eventually got so bad, one day the compressor ran, the X started to lift, the hissing started, and it never came up. Once the inactive light comes on the compressor shuts off. The remaining air if any, escapes through the leaking bag. This it what happened in my case. Hey it could be a bad line, but a compressor that works and then stops and hisses seems a little far fetched to me:).
