ok today while running errands i got the engine fail safe program what the f---k now.i got it towed home started taking it apart cause the code was throttle body fail to respond something like that. well i started to disassemble it, and when i got to the throttle body i saw this look at pix where the hell is that from any way i took it out reassemble it back together now it idles high=1200rpm instead of surging but still in fail safe mode could this part have gone bad by the rubber jamming it shut.?? i only get from 650 rpm to 1000 rpm respond when i step on the gas in drive no power.this truck has been a omen since i bought it in may-2014.

That's an interesting one! If the throttle still doesn't work, I think you have no choice but to replace it. I have a used one for a 4.4i motor, but I think the 3.0i is different.

Yeah, I'm no expert but that shouldn't be in there :)
Have you checked and cleared any related error codes? Unless that is done, the vehicle may not recognise that the condition which caused the error is no longer present. |
Oh, and one more thing - in the top of your pic, there are some witness marks on the butterfly from what I imagine is something metallic impacting it. That would concern me.
|
Have you worked out where it came from? That may also point to the issue. Note sure on the 3.0i, but some ECUs need certain errors cleared before they'll return to normal.

them scratches are from me when i got stuck put a screw driver thru the elbow to see if the flap was close or open while waiting for tow truck. no i clear all the codes with the scanner but still no go maybe leave batt disconnected over night.????
|
no still trying to figure where is from my guess somewhere from the plastic that goes from the mass to the elbow.??how else do you clear it i already clear them with the scanner.

Phew! Wouldn't like to think there are any stray metal objects down the intake tracts :)
Not sure whether errors are persistent on these computers or not. |
oh this is what the code comes up as Throttle Valve Adaptation; Adaptation Condition Not Met
|
That's the rubber ring between the MAF and the throttle body. Undo the clamp and I bet you are missing the rubber ring.
Not the first person to have that thing come off and jam in the throttle body. Last person to mess with the MAF didn't put it back on correctly. |
