Back in the game. This time with a 4.4

http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...pscd1f7785.jpg http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...psd35098f2.jpg It's a 1 owner 92k mile 4.4 2001 sport. Bought it from a small dealer. They put brand new toyo proxis tires, new alt, fan clutch, and brakes (aka, pads). Had a few mods. I'm assuming the front bumper is not stock?? Maybe 4.6? Same with the running boards. Wheels are unfortunately aftermarket. Dealer didn't have any hub rings on it either. Which was a good bargaining chip. It vibrated bad. Paints nice, has a few dings that I'll be having pulled. Anyone have a good source for x parts? Interior, headlights? I'd like to do some swaps/retrofits. Specifically black int., nav., folding mirrors, and xenon headlights. This is the rear hatch. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps89f09e9c.jpg It's missing the door. And it's wired for a sub. Previous guy must have had a sub and amp back there. I think he cut up the mounting tabs for the nav brackets too. Any idea if the e53 is prewired for nav or do I need to buy a harness? I notice there are unused plugs everywhere. In the engine bay, wheel arches, rear hatch. I already have Bluetooth retrofit parts in one of my e38's. I hope to swap them into the x soon. I did a fresh oil change. Next up will be transfer case and diffs. Then brakes. Is there a factory caliper upgrade available? On the e38's, the 750 had dual piston calipers that are a direct swap into the 740's. If not I'm just going to find a used set of stockers to powder coat and rebuild. Anyway, hope this one treats me as well as the last one. It's def. a lot more fun to drive. The v8 and air ride are a great combo compared to the last ones 3.0 and conventional shocks. Oh, btw, it has an aftermarket Reece hitch. But I can't seem to find any wiring. And the oem retrofit kit seems to be indefinitely back ordered. Is there any good way to work out the wiring? My last one had it factory equipped. |
Congrats on the ride. You can order the wiring harness separate from the whole hitch package. Dealer or ECS Tuning should have. I would highly recommend getting the factory hich wiring - has the proper modules, wiing, grommets, etc. I like etting stuff from ECS - aall handily online, ships quick (sometimes free) and they have credited me for any parts damaged during shipping. No issues with them.

Yea, I've ordered from ecs before. unfortunately the trailer wiring harness is what I tried to order. I live near bavauto, and when I tried to order from them they said they had 18 kits on back order from the dealer. All were waiting since the beginning of may. Its not pressing, so I might just make myself number 19.

Good luck, hope it doesn't turn into a money pit!

It looks very nice. I love the wheels, even if they are not OE.
Your front bumper is the original 4.4 bumper. But the previous owner apparently managed to get hold of the very much sought after, and awesome looking skid plate. -Which is no longer in production, and is practically impossible to get your hands on. It looks like you might need to get it re-sprayed though. What are the 3 small black rectangles on the front of your hood? |

Good news about the bumper. I do plan on having it sprayed. It's peeling pretty bad. |
Welcome back! Misery loves company. :-P
Hope the new money pot isnt that deep. Good luck! |
Nice looking find, the wheels should work just fine with hub rings.
You do have the discontinued skid plate, nice! Needs a respray though. The OEM $750 running boards are a great touch too. What worries me is the rust in the trunk area, must have taken in water at some point. If you're looking for black interior you'd definitely have to find someone parting out an X, for navigation you could probably drop the $750 on the Dynavin N6 unit as it looks the most OEM and has a ton of features. For xenon headlights, you could go Depo aftermarkets with angel eyes, or find someone selling a stock xenon set. For the latter, I have a set of stock xenons I'd be willing to part with (no bulbs or ballasts included though) Best of luck with it! |
My fave color, and Titz wheels! Congrats!
