Passenger door issues....Help!

First Post!!!

I am new to the X5 (purchased car about 2 months ago) and ran into the notorious window regulator problem. I went to roll up my passenger window to only find that it made a loud grinding noise and would not roll the window up higher than 3-4". I took the interior door panel off to have better access to the window and played with it / forced it up to keep rain out until my new parts arrive. Currently, The door panel is still off and now I am experiencing new issues 1: my passenger mirror wont tilt down when I shift into gear now and 2: the passenger door wont unlock / lock.... I tried unplugging the door actuator and window switch a couple times and the symptoms are still present. Can this really be because the door panel is off? Does not make any sense to me.... The car was off while I did this. However I did not unplug the Battery, I am praying I did not short anything!!! Any feedback is appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

oh yea and my car is: 2001 X5 4.4 61000 miles:cool:

probably same thing that happened to me. the regulator was failing and when you forced it, it overloaded the fuse and popped it.

the front passenger window has its own fuse in the big panel in the glove box.

MAN!!! I feel like an idiot, I forgot to check the fuses!!!! I will reply as soon as soon as I know!!!

I replaced the window regulator / motor and checked all the fuses. No fuses were blown...However, after pulling the fuses out and pluging in the new fuses everything works again (knock on wood). But now I face another issue. The window is noticeably noisy compared to the other windows and also lags a little bit when it is rolling up. I replaced the black window clips, even though the originals looked ok. I have to admit I purchased a cheap aftermarket window regulator with a motor attached. My question is can this be the cheap after market part? Or is my window out of alignment? I took a video and am trying to figure out how to post it up here, and will do so ASAP! Thanks in advance guys!

I also noticed that the window motor is pushed directly against the door.... Maybe this is why? I have a feeling in going to be ordering the BMW part....

Anyone out there?

chances are that your old motor is still good... pull the motor from old assembly, test it using the plug from the door, and use the original motor in the aftermarket regulator... you might have to bent some aftermarket metal or use some stuff from the original regulator but the motor's mounting holes should align...

see if the helps or not...

from your other post - the mirror might not be tilting because your left/right switch is in a different position... check that to see... the pop up of the lock - because the door cover is off, there is no back tension on the rod...

welcome to the forum...

Thanks for replying!!! It might be bent, it almost sounds like somethings out of alignment. have you replaced a regulator before? I'm wondering if I should go with a BMW one? As far as the mirror, unplugging the fuses and re installing them somehow got things working again. (doesn't make much sense).
