3.0 stalled at a stop
01. 3.0 with 90k on the odo.
was getting on the freeway and had to pull to a stop and stalled. the following codes showed up p0505 idle control system p0344 camshaft position sensor p0492 secondary air injection system bank 1 p0491 secondary air injection system bank 1 would one of the codes start to throw the other codes? ran a search and no one seemed to have gotten these four. thanks again. what should I look for first? |
When my car stalled on me it was my fuel pump
|
none of those codes are thrown to be a fuel pump right? what code did your fuel pump throw?
|
A bad fuel pump does not throw up any codes. The engine will just quit running or not start because the engine is not getting any gas.
|
A WILD guess: something went through your intake bank 1 all the way:wow:
That's one over 1 million chance, so let's forget it. :bustingup I just feel something wrong with your wiring harness, xuz all related to sensors, maybe just one tiny area got hit by a flying rock. . GL! |
hmm darn that's not going to be easy to find a nic in the system
|
Search e46fanatics.com for those codes and you will find your answer. M54 engine is much more prevalent in that car and you will get many more results there. Could be any number of things off hand. Bad vacuum leak, crank case breather, secondary air pump, secondary air valve, cam sensor(s)?
Were there any symptoms before hand? Or did it just start running rough out of nowhere and you had to pull over? Rough running on cold starts? And yes, one of those could cause the others. I'm actually surprised you didn't start getting rich or lean codes along with the ones you posted. |
runs fine until that jumped up.
|
If it just happened, I would look at the hoses from the secondary air pump. Could be that one of the end just pop off. Secondary hoses are located on the passenger side of the engine. They are plastic hose and they click into place. To un clip them you need to squeeze the fittings.

At almost 100,000 miles and 13 years you are nearing the point when most of the plastic and rubber hoses/components are going to start needing replacement. |

I had a similar case when almost all the error codes popped at the same time. Turned out to be water infiltration in the engine harness connectors after driving through 10 inches of water during a severe storm. Luckily, insurance covered the $1837 bill under comprehensive for "storm damage". 2002 X5 3.0 261,000 miles 2004 325i 115,000 miles |
live in so cal so no storms. I reset and it hasn't come back yet. hopefully it stays away. thanks guys
