Ripped CV Boot. 2 part numbers WTF?
Sup fellow Xers.
I think I was DPing to hard on a lonely evening when I was all by myself. After I parked the car in the garage, next day, there was a funny grease/diff fluid smell. Checked the car quick, and shit, my entire drivers rim in geese. Yay, the joy of cleaning up a blown CV boot. I also think I blew my high pressure hoses for power steering, as the fluid is low, and bunch of the hoses are wet. So, one problem at a time. I will make another thread for the power steering. I go to realOEM and find that there are two part numbers for the CV boots. Condition A, and condition B. WTF. I can't tell what condition I have without cutting the boots off it seems. Check out the link. RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Final drive(frnt axle),output shaft,4whl I am talking about part numbers 31607565316 and 31607507402 for number 5. Is the shaft bigger for condition B? Or is it how the boot is formed? Please help. Thanks in advance. |
Hmmm, that is tough. I can tell you mine was version "A" though. ECS recommends version A as well if you plug in 4.8iS in the search filter.

Well since the boot is already torn why not undo the clamp and slide the boot over to look at which condition you have.

Thanks Ricky. I think I will email Craig, and see if he can figure this shit out.
Upallnight, I guess that will be my other option. but I am not sure what to look for. If you look at the images, the shafts look similar. The boot looks different. But now that my boot is ripped, it looks like A. Not sure if B would look the same, I guess I can check the other side. On another note. I have an OTC hub puller. Does anyone know the part number for the OTC hub installer, or at least the thread pitch so that I can order the installer. I rather not be hammering my brand new rotors or hub. Thanks. |

Mine was very similar to this DIY
I bought the front "outer" boot repair kit http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...mw-x5-e53.html This might help decrypt the REAL OEM puzzle Final drive(frnt axle),output shaft,4whl. Fits: X5 | BMW of South Atlanta Depending on the actual trim : Two groups for part 4 interior boot Two groups for part 5 outer boot |

Sweet. Craig said same thing 402. Still gotta get under it tomorrow and rip the boot out just to be safe. Just so nasty that i need to get some one time use clothed for this. Thanks all.
Now for the puller to pull axle back in. If anyone knows the thread and pitch on the axle nut, that would be swell. Or would it be the size listed on realoem. M27 x 1.5? Ty. |
