anyone installed the pano repair kit?
 

My pano has issues beyond your standard back wont go down. I'm sick of it not working so I ordered the 2 pano repair kits from ecs tuning. It has never been very clear to me exactly what the two kits are. I get the impression that the $122 is for the issues associated with the rear and the $246 is more for the front. All I know id this isn't something I want to do twice. Kit should be here Friday or Monday.

Has anyone installed this or removed their pano? I'm sure I can figure it out but a diy is always nice.

My shade cover won't retract all off the way so it won't let the main panel open . It can be operated manually. I believe it has to be open for part of the headliner removal process?

I'm kind of hesitant but hopeful that this will provide me with a fully functioning pano roof!!

Biggest trick is going to be finding time to do it. Between building an airplane, getting my pilots license, helping my brother build his house, and not being able to say no to boats on a sunny day time is a very scarce commodity here.

So is it that no one cares to fix them or what? I have a sort of suspicion that most board members just either disconnect them or do the mod to keep the back from moving. I would guess that these kits are more often purchased by the dealer or shops servicing roofs from poor saps who think they don't have a choice. I plan on keeping my X till shes more or less worthless so I think it will be nice to have this working properly.

I realized this morning that I forgot one of the kits. It is basically 9, 6, and 7 that the makes up the kits on ECS. See numbers on real oemRealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i SLID.LIFT. ROOF-COVER/CEILING FRAME

The kits include some additional parts as well but near as I can tell most all of the plastic and wear parts are included.

There was one guy I remember that did the fix. He didn't post pictures, but said it was sort of self explanatory. Lots of parts, and the biggest pain was removing the pano from the car.

I have pano roof. So eventually I will need to do this, so subscribed.

Okay - well I will definitely keep you informed than. I guess my largest concerns is how the headliner separates from the roof around the pano and what actually holds the pano in place. I think the former is more pressing as I think once the headliner is out things may become more self explanatory. I kind of suspect what this "guy" said about the pano being self explanatory. My only concern is that things may get a little confusing when it comes time to button the cassette back up. These things look to be a big black plastic rube goldberg machine. I know even just putting the wires back on a window regulator can become mildly confusing so this may be ebst done in baby steps.

My other concern is if things will be difficult with not having a fully operable pano. I suspect there are steps that should be done with it open.

I am sure ours is similar.

After you put it back together. You will have to initialize it. You do that by closing everything, and hold the sunroof button up, like 45 sec, then all the stuff starts opening. You just keep holding it up will it returns to original closed position, don't let go.

I found a few people talking about it after a quick google search. No real DIY, but people say take your time, lots of parts, but nothing outrageous.

Also, don't forget to get the updated seal around the pano. Supposed to reduce wind noise.

Thanks for the link on the headliner. I have actually read through that a couple times trying to get a feel for it. The note about the pano roofs is what has me sort of confused because I'm just not sure what the white clips are. i just don't know if there the variety that need to be slid out or pulled down, etc. I'm sure I'll figure it out but its one of those things I'd like to do without breaking half of the clips.

I know nothing oc this updated seal. Is that ebay link correct or is it something I can find on Real oem - feel free to not reply to that as I'll probably find it once I post this and actually look.

Yup thats the guy. REal OEM has the part number updated as well.

Mcurcio I haven't seen a DIY except the one slick linked. Most guys I know had the pano repair done by the dealer (and paid handsomely I'm sure) if you are handy and take your time I'm sure it's doable.

^That is what I have suspected. I'd be disappointed to even have someone fix it for me for free. I want to see how this things works! I'm sure your average indy shop guy fixing these never received BMW panoramic roof overhaul training either. I'm sure I'll be fine.
