Oil pressure switch leaking - which part number to replace it with?

Well - I believe I have finally found the source of the remaining oil-leak on my X. It looks like it's the oil pressure switch

I did some poking around last night on a couple websites and found 4 different part numbers which all claim to be the same thing....I was not able to locate this part on realoem.

So the question is - what's right and why so many variations? Ecstuning alone lists 3 different part numbers.

I assume the different part numbers could have a different spring in them - thus operate differently? I don't have the part numbers handy - they are written down at home.

The last leak! (For now) Woo hoo.

Realoem has 2 p/n: 12617568480 & 12617620512, both marked as "ended". ECS Tuning has the former (FAE brand).
Here is the realoem linky. Item # 13.

This is located in the right front of the engine, on the side and below the upper timing plate (gasket). Your pic is a bit misleading, and at first I thought you have a shot of the T-stat adapter for the oil cooling, in which case you need an O-ring (this here in realoem - item #2).

Yeah. The picture is a bit misleading and it's not the best. It's turned a bit - I took this from the bottom - looking up at the underside of
The vacuum pump and upper
timing cover. Sure looks like that's where the oil is coming from. I don't think it's coming from anywhere higher

I've replaced the timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets and both seals in the vacuum booster pump.

Thanks for those links. Maybe I need to look a little more closely to see if it's the oil
pressure switch or o-ring as you were suggesting. I'll take the intake off and see if I can get a better look down there....

2005 X5 4.4i N62 Oil pressure switch leak

Hi guys, I believe I have the same issue. Mine is pumping oil up through the electrical conduit to the top of the engine. The underside of my car is a mess. I found a youtube video of the same issue pumping the leaking oil out of the conduit at the top of the engine. Did this happen to you? Were you able to look under the engine top covers? cheers James

These switches are notorious for failing (and leaking) - the same part is even used on BMW motorcycles, with a similar failure rate and mode.

It's cheap (especially if your can source an aftermarket part - and mostly likely it'll last longer too!) and easy to replace. If your has oil on it, it needs replacing regardless, so just replace it and see if that sorts your leak.

On my BMW Motorcycle, I used a Tridon branded unit after having three "genuine" switches fail on me.... no issues in the 5-6 six years since.

How is it that they can pump oil against gravity up the inside of the electrical pipe to come out the top of the engine where the electrical wires come out? Your not supposed to see oil coming out there.
