X5 (E53) - Replacement HD LCD Screen.

Guys, I am aware of a company that does SD replacement LCD screens for the X5 E53 Nav Head Unit, but has anyone come across a source for HD replacement screens?

I actually bought mine on Ebay.

From this seller. New Original BMW E38 E39 E46 E53 x5 Navigation LCD Screen Display Monitor | eBay

At the time it was only $115.00 shipped. Seems to be OEM Sharp screen that is in our units.

I replaced the screen myself. Took a couple tries because you have to manually adjust the vertical and horizontal alignment of the screen. But took me no longer than a couple hours one Saturday morning. Plenty of diy videos on youtube. Good luck

Edit: Sorry...didn't catch about the SD vs HD screen. I believe that the LCD I got is just the standard replacement. Is there such a replacement?

Did the screen swap improve the screen display? brighter, clearer, etc? as changing the screen might fix my faded issues and an HD screen (if they exist) might not be nesaccary.

Just like a 1080p HD TV, if you're not sending an HD signal, you won't get HD output. The NAV computer does not send HD signals, so an HD screen would do you no good.

I believe the familiar colloquialism is that it's as good as t!ts on a bull.

FINALLY something on here I can chime in about with some useful information, instead of sucking you guys dry. :)

Replacing your screen with an HD screen could actually prove to make your display look worse. It won't be faded or have dead spots, but the weak point of most inexpensive HD displays is their ability to display an SD signal. Your nag unit doesn't send an HD signal, it sends SD, so using an SD screen will allow for accurate pixel mapping. Installing an HD screen will force it to remap each pixel, so you're at the mercy of the display. Or you might even get one that won't do the scaling and you'll get a small SD image in the center of an HD display.
