Air suspension issue
So something weird happened today.
I came home after school this afternoon and parked my truck in my garage, i had to unload a couple of things from the trunk and while doing so i hear this weird hissing coming from the driver side front tire, i walked over and watched the front of my x5 slowly drop, both driver and passenger side.. so i thought great the air bags blew (both about 5 years old both from bmw).. Here is the weird part, i start the x5 close the door and press control to raise the vehicle, i get no error light on my dash no SLS Inact.. the truck lifts up the rear as usual but the front pretty much stays slammed on the stops. Is i possible i blew an airline or something? the hissing was only coming from the drivers side front tire but left and right is both slammed.. Read the faults first see what it gives you...
It might be a lot of things.if both sides dropped simultaneously I doubt both bags blew in the same time.Scan it and go from there. |
Could be a level sensor in the rear gone wacky as well. Scan it.

+1 on sensor failing
|
Pulled codes with INPA, nothing at all.. im thinking its the valve or the air line, ill take off the wheel and inspect things later tonight and report back..
If it does end up being either the valve or the air line are those things replaceable? |
Vehicle lifts up only if i press the button but as soon as it passes a certain height or maybe PSI i hear hissing again and the front deflates again almost instantly.. The compressor from what i can tell just from the sound i hear is constantly running, i dont mind if the compressor burns up i have a replacement that i bought incase i would need it sometime when i had non-stop problems with the air suspension when i first purchased the vehicle..

You're raising the vehicle up enough to expose the leak in the bag and that's whats making it leak down again.
Take the wheels off and show me the condition of the bags, I'm fairly certain they are shot. For what its worth both my front air struts were shot at around the same time, Arnott for replacements. |

Removed the wheel and let the strut drop as low as it would go and saw a tear in the bag itself.. Im going to order the Arnott replacement asap, the right side looks good and seems to be holding air no problem. Is there a diy out there to replace the airbag? i saw a couple yt vids for the rear ones but didnt find anything for the front.. |
Do them both..... Especially if they are original. I'm telling you, the other one isn't far behind. They deteriorate from age
|
Did the other side when I first bought the truck in 09. I'm looking to upgrade within the next month or so anyway but I found Arnott replacements in locally for $350 just the air bag though the strut was replaced not too long ago. Going to attempt putting it in tomorrow after class.
