New X5 Owner!
Well, not a new X5, but new to me. I will get it on monday but I've already made the deal on a 2005 3.0i with 64k miles. It has the pano roof and nav system (which I will be looking to replace). Black on black. Great shape!
Trading a 2006 325xi in. Not that I want to get rid of my manual transmission but we own a winery and I need something BIGGER! After checking out a few SUVs, none of them drive like the X5. Hopefully pics next week. |
You can get an X5 with a manual transmission you know...
|
Welcome to the family!

Good Luck with her....good miles on her,I am sure You will learn a lot here.
|
A premature welcome, ratbert. Several here, like me, or advocates for manual transmission X5s, but they are pretty hard to find. That low a mileage version bodes well for the auto versions, too. I'm with you on ditching the NAV, I was glad mine didn't have one.

Welcome!

enjoy it. get some nice winter tires and it will be a beast in the snow |
Welcome! I also vote find one with a stick
|
I searched for a manual and only found one, 3 hours away with higher miles. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of spare time or time to wait until one surfaces closer. At least I still have my 1974 Super Beetle, Crossfire and 911 that are all stick!
The tires on it now are Nokian Vatiiva and they look like they will be great in snow. I have a set of dedicated snows for my 325 that are awesome, so I may get some for the X5 too. Where I live AWD is almost a necessity and snows make it even better. The nav screen is old and worn out. Monday night I will play with the stereo and see if I can get some decent sound out of it. I know how to set it on my 325, so it should be close to the same but I still want something nicer. There seem to be a couple nice android versions around here that people have used. That may be the way to go. I also checked the service records with the local dealer and it had good maintenance. |
You must be outside of Watkins Glen somewhere in that frozen wasteland...
It is September 26 so winter has set in? |
Nice car, welcome to the Board!
We waddled through nearly every winery in the F Lakes region, when we lived in NY outside the City. Cases bought and dragged home, and flagons consumed on those dozen trips...I left some brain cells up there. Beautiful country, imo. GL, mD |
We are getting our last "indian summer". It's supposed to hit 80 this weekend. Too bad I'll be stuck in the winery bottling. I just got another order from our distributor, so the very evening I get my X5 I will be loading it up with mead!
If I were near Watkins Glen, then I'd be much closer to that manual X5, but I'm closer to Albany. In western Schenectady county. Good guess though! The winters are definitely frozen. I've got a 74" snowblower on my tractor and a salt spreader and plow on my ATV. |

If you are referring to Mike Patton, then yes! One of the most diverse singers ever to walk this earth. But I didn't think he was a local. Everything else in that image looks greek to me. The Place Beyond the Pines? Is that a reference to Saratoga Park's Avenue of the Pines? I'm totally out of touch with radio, TV and movies, unless it's a Pixar film or something my kids would like. We don't even have cable TV (but don't think my kids are deprived at all).
|
Twas a movie set in Schenectady, I guess you didn't get my pop culture reference and further reinforce people's views of Upstate NY
KIDDING! But you prob should hook the kids up with some cable just sayin |
They still watch enough TV via PBS Kids, Netflix and Hulu on my AppleTV. and any shows that we can't live without we are able to buy through iTunes and watch on appleTV too. There are a few that I like, when I have the time. Plus we have a Wii U that our older 6-year old loves to play.

Picked up the X5 late yesterday! Such a nice driving vehicle. Last night we packed it full of wine and today it will make its first delivery. 17 cases with room for more.
One thing is for sure, as nice as everything is, the audio is not even close to my 2006 325xi. It seems silly that it would sound so much worse but it does. I will dig into it but my first guess is that there are no subs in the X5. At least the CD changer works. I'm definitely going to check out something aftermarket. Audio quality is important to me so I am looking very closely at the Dynavin N6. It has good specs on paper. I have factory nav, so I would need to run the 6m cable to the back. Not my idea of fun but I've done it before! |
Double check in the rear compartment, in the right side. There may be a sub. Mine has one. It's nothing great, but when I take the door out it does okay.
Need to figure out a way to better vent that thing. Also, feel free to bring a delivery my way! The redder and dryer the better! |
I found a photo of the sub assembly in this thread:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...e53-years.html And I definitely do NOT have that. It looks like I have nav, no sub, no DSP. We don't actually make "wine" we make mead which is considered a "honey wine". Only 1 of 3 or so in NY who are dedicated to that. I'll have to add my website to my sig! |
I was getting ready to plunk down the change for the Dynavin N6 when today Pioneer announces their appRadio 4 and NEX series receivers are now carplay compatible with a firmware update just released. Their site is getting hammered so it's wicked slow but I may have a better option now. Even though it doesn't quite match the OEM look, it's something I can have professionally installed. the local shop installed my wife's system and it looks awesome.
Anyone with experience having a Pioneer unit installed? Does anything need to be cut out of the dash? I'm off to do some forum searches. |
So I may not have joined the coolant leak club, but I did get a SES light this morning. I checked and reset it with my plx kiwi wifi and REV software on my iphone
the code was P1092 with 5 incomplete monitors: Catalyst monitor Evap system monitor Secondary air system monitor O2 sensor O2 sensor heater that's all the info I have right now. Cleared, it is still getting the rediness monitors and pending code (which I assume will turn on the SES again soon). Right now there's no time for me to troubleshoot myself, so I will get it in for service. I still like to have a clue when I'm talking with them. The monitors lead me to believe its the O2 sensor. |
Could be Pre cat 02 sensor. Could also be a vacuum leak or a problem with a fuel injector. If the 02 sensors haven't been replaced in 60,000 miles or more that pushes the 02 sensor up on the list but I would check for vacuum leak and add some fuel injection cleaner to a tank of gas before replacing the pre cat 02 sensor.
|
The O2 sensor was most likely not replaced yet, and I know the car sat for months before I bought it so these "bugs" are bound to show up. I will post back when I know the resolution!

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/St...Play_large.jpg It seems to be a lot more refined, yet simple. It works with Android too, but the Apple CarPlay setup is crazy good. |
I'd scratch the appradio and go with the avant-2 then. The appradio just won't look at home in the X5s dash.
|
Seems like just as quickly as I joined the club, I'm forced to leave it. I recently totaled my X5 thanks to a deer. First time ever that I have hit one, but fortunately both myself and my 2 year old son are perfectly fine.
Now that I'm driving "something else" (does it really matter what?) I miss the feel of the X5. On the plus side, I managed to scavenge my Dynavin head unit and mounting brackets, so if anyone is interested in it, I'd like to make a little bit of my N6 investment back. It's not going to have the CAN interface, BT mic, antenna extension or wiring harness though. but those can probably be purchased separately from JT. |
So sad to hear that such a low mileage X is totaled. Glad that you and your son are o.k. That's one of the strong point of owning a X.
|
PM'd about dynavin ..
|
Daddy killed Bambi
Sorry to learn of your "Deer event" but happy to hear that all is OK with the humans involved. Cook that bastard if he/she is still on the scene.
|
Not only were my son and I fine, the deer was knocked a good 20 feet with a direct hit to the front of the X5. It rolled, got up and ran off! Big doe. That woulda been some good eatin' too.
