What does the red windshield warning light mean?
 

My 2001 3.0 has a red windshield warning dash light that comes on for about 3-5 minutes every time. I do not have low fluid and the wipers work. My rear does not work, I think the motor is bad. Is that what the light is for.

Not sure which dash warning light you are referring to, but there is not one for a bad wiper motor. If you look in the owner's manual you will see a complete listing of all of the warning indicators and what they mean. See http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e5...20-%202001.pdf on pages 18-25.

I'm lost as to which warning light you mean as well. Can you take a pic of it...or point it out if its in the image below (I'm assuming you have the low cluster, too)?

I took a pic but the site says it is too big. But yes, it is in the red box you highlighted. The windhshield icon is all red when I start it.

I'm guessing washer fluid. Check the tank.

According to the manual, that is the "add washer fluid" indicator and it goes out after approx. 1 minute. If the fluid reservoir is full, I'd suggest you either have a faulty/dirty connection on the wiring plug to the washer level sensor, or the sensor is bad.
