Next Up - Troubleshooting my PDC
So here's my next mini-project. Restoring the PDC to operation.
Here's what I've got. Under most circumstances as soon as I throw it in reverse I get a beeping sound and flashing PDC light by the gear shifter. I press the PDC button and it shuts up. This is getting a little old so it's time to fix it. I've read about "listening" for a ticking to figure out which one is bad, but I don't hear any ticking at all. Is this to be done with the ignition in a certain position or with the car running? BMW scanner 1.4 seems to be telling me it's the front right, but there are two front right ones really. There's front-front-right and front-right-right. Listening for an audible click would help, but I hear no clicking from any of them. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b671dcfbe1.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
got same issue..subscribed for answers

Me, too. I think I have a loose wire on one sending unit in the back [created when installing the trailer hitch] but I haven't noticed the 'clicking' to confirm or identify the bad unit.
|
Subscribed as well. lol. Same issue here. Need to check codes with DIS.

Subscribed!
Just ordered a couple PDC sensors from eBay in case I can pinpoint specific units that have gone bad, but I'm curious about your findings. |
LOL all of us and the damn PDC issue

Clicking test is good enough. If you put the key in position 2 then press the PDC button you activate your parking system and all the sensors front and rear should have the clicking sound. Those that don't are defective or a wiring problem. The flashing PDC button is because the error you have. The problem is that you have to have all the sensors working for the system to work otherwise just tells you to not rely on it.
I had a bad one in the back and one in the front and I had to replace them. |
021- Converter, front right is the far right one closet to the corner.
023- Converter, front center right is the center right. |

I ran it in INPA and came up with this error: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5605/...35139318_c.jpg Not sure what that means, so I ran it in DIS. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5604/...d342565e_c.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/ouw5h1dtyy...14.23.png?dl=0 |
Ill check this out on mine when I get home tonight. Thanks. Good info. Looks like you need to remove the front bumper to get to these things. Bummer.

Confirmed with the click-test. It's the front outer right as was suggested. I felt like a bat as I sat on my hands and knees sticking my ear against each sensor.
Now - I see two apparent styles of sensor. One looks like it's offset 90 and the other looks more straight. Which one is this? Reaoem isn't helping too much here. I see in 66-05 something that looks like the rear of the car and sensors there but nothing that describes the front of the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The straight ones are for all 8 sensors including the front outer corners on pre-facelift 00-03 (all 8 sensors are the same p/n) and the 90 degree offset ones are for the front outer ones on the facelift models 04-06. The other 6 on the facelift models are the same as the pre-facelift.

Did mine this morning - easy-peasy. It took maybe an hour start to finish.
PDC system works again!! |
Pics or it didn't happen. Removed all fasteners and just popped the bumper skin loose and let it rest on a cardboard box.

Good to hear you got it back up and running. Bumper removal is very easy!
