Liqui Moly

So i just ordered Liqui Moly Oil 5W30 for my next Oil Change which is coming up and i just wanted to know if anyone had experience with it?

Also How often do you guys change your oil.. ive been doing it every 3.5k miles with Castrol EDGE 5W30..

Is this oil going to be bad for the m54 engine?

I normally stay away from the snake oil salesmen.

Liqui-Moly is one of the best oils on the planet. I'd have no problem using it. You can go easily 7-10 k miles with any synthetic oil. Just monitor the condensate paste forming during the cold months, and drive it hard whenever you see it starting forming to get rid of it.

If im changing from castrol to liqui, do i have to like flush the engine completely? or can I just do the oil change?

Your engine wouldn't know the difference with the tiny bit of the old oil left over. I've been using various BMW branded Castrol, Total, and Mobil1 over the years and the X is about to hit 100K without any issues. Heck, I even mixed in a few combo at times.

FYI...3.5K oil changes are way overkill. Here are some pictures of my engine with annual oil changes (varies from 6K to 12K annual miles) => http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...s-rebuild.html

omg not another should i use xxxx oil thread

get the oil you like to use that is a quality oil, use a quality oem filter, change the oil every 5k or twice a year or so, and enjoy the drive. 5w30, 0w40, 5w40 are all just fine weights of oil for the M54.

I personally use $22/gallon Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 and Mann filters and change the oil twice a year and it runs amazing. Just use what you like and use it often, Liqui Moly is good if thats what you want to buy.

Agreed. But with the low rev'ing M54, even 5K/semi-annual oil changes are overkill. Only time I would do a 5K change is if the oil has been in there for about a year or so. Then again, do whatever you're comfortable with.

Liqui Molly is good stuff, but I don't care for the price.

I use NAPA Synthetic (made by Valvoline), $3.50/qt when on sales. Replace oil every 5K-6K, zero problems.

sckooby, my Blackstone reports indicate that 6-7.5k miles between changes with quality synthetics, using quality [Mann or Hecht] filters, are fine. I normally use Mobil1 0w40, though the last fill was the high-detergent 5w30 Pennzoil. 3k+ mile oil changes using quality synthetics is overkill .... unless you drive less under 3k miles per year, in which case an annual change wouldn't hurt.
