I don't get it????
Are you telling me my used car isn't worth $80k.(only paid $2k) And now I am going to have to fix it, and pay for the repairs..... Next thing your going to try to tell me that there is no Santa or Easter bunny. |
I did virtually no research on the endemic problems with E53's prior to buying mine. I drove it, I liked it, I bought it. Actually, that's not quite true. My WIFE and I drove it, my WIFE and I liked it, so I bought it....
We liked it much more than the Cayenne we were also looking at. Yes, it will suffer maintenance issues during the period of our ownership. That makes it exactly NO different to ANY piece of mechanical equipment. Even a brand new one. Just that the mix of maintenance requirements may be different. Anyway, as they say....you can please some of the people all of the time....and you can please all of the people some of the time....but you will never please a fuckwit. |
Thankfully most of us know that PM goes a long way and are willing to pay for it. All part of the beautiful badge!! :) 'Proper' rant, tho!

As the saying goes….
- To get the most out of a car's lifespan, it depends most on how the car is cared for and maintained. - If you take proper care and maintenance of it [the vehicle], it will take care of you. - How you take care of a vehicle has so much to do with how long it lasts. ** THESE ALL POINTS BACK TO THE OWNER! Not just BMW but all vehicles…. - A lot of highway driving is the preferred scenario, the best thing for any engine is the longer trips to allow everything inside to work at capacity when it heats up and all of the moisture gets out of the system every time. - It's the short trips and the stop-and-go that tend to be the hardest. - BUT mileage alone is hardly a basis of longevity of a car. How it is cared, maintained, driven and where (climate/condition) makes a big difference. Study the art of reliability engineering (see below)? DO I HAVE TIME FOR THIS? I'd rather detail, maintain (per manufacturer recommendation / apply some tweaks) and do occasional preventive measures and repairs where it is cost-effective. * Reliability Engineering, Reliability Theory and Reliability Data Analysis and Modeling Resources for Reliability Engineers * http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/esv...ESV-000027.pdf * The Bathtub Curve and Product Failure Behavior (Part 2 of 2) * http://www.lifetime-reliability.com/...l_Analysis.pdf But I do have time to explore the possibility of ordering (drool) at the future X5M (F15 F85, will wait for LCI)... |
Not sure I entirely understand the intention of the original post.

Here here!
PropellerHead is spot on. I really love these rants even though we are speaking to ourselves sometimes.
As these E53 X5 age out of the product longevity path (somewhere before 15 years), many a third, fourth and maybe fifth owners will come a crying to the forum about issues that could have been identified by any PPI BEFORE that awful purchase event. (Needs work = get a lower price as you will need it for the repairs). Well boys and a few girls, you're at the crossroads of normal vehicle life. Fix or flip. Invest in (Buy) some tools, search the forum and read, as this site offers up a lifetime of knowledge base of "been there and done that" information. Your not alone. Time to man up, grow a set of balls and get your finger dirty. Now if you choose to let someone else do the work, open your check book, credit card, cash, whatever and pay as everyone knows is not cheap to fix high-end cars at the end of their lives. Viva BMWs !!!! |
