Diameter of the rubber trans cooling line
 

Hello all,

My transmission oil cooling lines are both leaking where the flexible part meets the rigid one. The local dealer does not have them in stock and on top of that they are overcharging. International shipping is not an option due to bulkiness. After taking a closer look I realized I should just do the repair myself using a new hose and oetiker clamps and save a bunch of $$$.

As this is our daily ride I would like to do it in one go and not get stuck because the replacement hose I have is not a good fit - hence my question: can anyone confirm the outer and inner diameter of the rubber oil coolant hose?

I rebuilt my Volvo cooler lines for a few dollars. Angle grinder to cut the crimp, then new hose and Oetiker clamps.

If you have a truck auto parts store in Kuwait, they should be able to cut the crimps replace the hose and re-crimp the hose to the line and fitting. Or a hydraulic shop should also be able to that.

Oh, another MVS member. :) As soon as I sort out the X5 issues I'll be back on my S80. Need to do one at a time.

I was thinking the same. There are a number of shops that deal with industrial machinery near my office where I anted to ask about the hose anyway, I'll check if any of them can do it.
Good thing is that such getting such things done is cheap here. Finding someone who is reliable is a challenge though. I can also check with the guy who repaired one of the AC lines, they have the similar setup.

If you can get a pair of vernier calipers on to the hard pipe, then you know the internal diameter of the rubber hose you are after....

No need for industrial crimping.

The ATF cooler line pressure is ~ 10 psi, very low pressure.
In the Volvo link above, I rebuilt my ATF cooler hoses for $10. That was 2 years ago, my Volvo ATF cooler hoses are still bone dry.

cn90, how much transmission oil can I expect to lose when removing the hoses? I am planning to drain the transmission fluid and refill after the surgery, but not sure I will be able to do it myself as I don't have a way to keep the car level and crawl under it at the same time. I was thinking to take it to a nearby shop for the fluid change if I will lose a little but when removing the hoses, but if a lot will drip out I guess that would be a risky. I wish they included the normal refill line on these things.

You only lose from the lines and cooler itself, not much fluid loss.

Build some wood ramps and drive the X5 up. See photos I posted below:
