Headlight washers draining tank
 

So I just replaced my headlight washer pump which was not running with a FEBI unit. When i hit the wash cycle the washers will now fire but after they stop running it syphons the remaining fluid from the tank very quickly. Looks like its leaking out of all of the washers but its hard to tell as the car is soaked as the snow is coming down. For sure the 2 passenger side ones. Any one have any thoughts on this?

So just took another look, its draining from all 4 washers.

I guess no one has seen this before?

It's Thanksgiving. I would imagine most are with family and friends. Did you have to remove the bumper to gain access to the pump?

When I removed my bumper for the under ride protection install, I found that my headlight washers were also draining my tank. The problem was the hose fittings that I had reused. I ordered new fittings and replaced them. It's been solid for about 2 years now.

I am afraid you won't like my answer but I am opposite. I hate HL washer:
- They drain the juice so quickly that I have to fill the reservoir frequently.
- They spray onto the hood.

So, in all my cars with this HL washer feature, I disable them.

For my 2006 X5 3.0i, I simply open the fuse box near the firewall, removed the fuse controlling the HL washer, and lay the fuse there. I made a small label "HL washer fuse" and tape it to the fuse for future reference.

I don't miss the HL washer, many cars out there simply don't have this useless feature (useless to me, but useful for others).

BTW< I don't know much about FEBI, but I always use VDO brand (OEM supplier) from autohausaz dot com w/o any issues.

i figured on Thanksgiving we would see an increase of traffic from guys avoiding the kitchen!

I did not remove the bumpers. It is draining directly from the headlight washers themselves.

As far as disabling the pump that won't help, it drains without the pump running. I have to crimp the line to make it stop. FEBI is OEM as well. I know there are mixed feelings but i spend a lot of time in ski country with heavily sanded roads.

Here is where mine was losing fluid. The little distribution piece tucked nicely behind the bumper is what went. See page 2 for pics.

If you want to plug only the line, a sharpie worked for me :)

I'm having the same problem. fluid is leaking out of my headlight washers. Only solution I heard so far is to replace all 4 washer
