Alternator bracket leak?

Is this what I think it is and hope it's not? Is this what an alternator-bracket leaks looks-like on a n62?

I've been chasing oil leaks since last spring. New valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, fixed the vacuum pump and oil pressure switch. Now this I guess....

Anyone here do this job themselves? Trying to read-up
A bit on this now. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...73ab82eddd.jpg

I had the alternator bracket leak issue earlier this year. I recommend you take care of it right away. Within two weeks, the leak went from few small drops to losing 3+ quarts in 30 minutes of driving. When it goes, it goes... Lucky I didn't blow my engine.

Alternator bracket leak?

I am hoping it's not what I think it is - but suspect it is. I'll clean-er up with brake clean today and let it run a bit up on jack stands to see what I can see.

In your experience was any jacking or engine manipulation required? A good DYI article would be immensely appreciated.

Okay. Cleaned it up today with a can of brake clean. Started the car. Let it sit running for 15 min or so while I observed (nothing) then took it for a 7 mile "loop" around town. Looks like I have a little seepage starting to show up.

I don't think it's a desperate situation at this point but I do think that the oil is coming from that damn alternator bracket seal. I don't think it's coming from higher-up and going around this area, but it's possible I guess.

I think we observe it for now. The X isn't my daily. It gets out on weekends mostly. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...cd2980acec.jpg

The more I look at this thing - the more I am thinking that perhaps it's not leaking from the alternator bracket. Based on the shape and location of the seal oil should be coming from somewhere around the area in the pic above. I drove the car a good 40 miles since I cleaned it up and nothing obviously leaking....

I do see a little evidence of oil maybe coming from higher-up which I believe would leave only valve cover gaskets (which were replaced in the spring) I need to focus my clean-up efforts here to make sure

Can you think of any other places on this side of the engine which can leak?

I just had my Alternator Bracket Seals replaced.....$1000. They had just replaced my water pump...next thing you know, oil is dripping all over the place. The bottom of my car looked similar to yours in the pic

I still have not addressed this issue. I keep staring at the car, drinking beer, hoping it will fix itself. It has not worked yet.....

The leak hasn't gotten any worse, but has not got any better either. Hopefully this week I'll get some time and remove the belly-fan for a more certain diagnosis before I start tearing stuff apart. I need to change the front diff oil anyway......

I did pick-up the gasket from a local dealer a week or two ago, so I have that. The whole jacking the engine/moving the diff has me a bit rattled and apprehensive.

Maybe I am making it out to be more of a big deal than it is? I have a floor jack but do not have an engine hoist

I'm in the same situation. Mine leaks from other places as well though... one of these days I'll nut up and dive in.

Good link. I hope that guy posts those DIY pics for the alternator bracket change. That'd be very helpful.
