Using Scanner for the first time.
Guys, I have got myself a scanner 1.4/PASoft and am aware of a couple of issues with the car, but also aware that the scanner may report historical data, therefore whats the best approach when using the scanner. Is it best to clear all the error codes, drive around for a while and then run a error scan? Does the "Clear DTC" clear all errors?
Also, within PASoft, why are they 2 error columns? and you also have "faults currently present" and "faults not currently present" are the "not currently present" historical faults? and if so, how do you clear them to get a level playing field? |
As you said. Clear the codes. Drive round for a week and re read. Worry about codes in red, they are 'present'. Codes in yellow are intermittent. Ultimately it depends on what the code is as to how serious you take it.

Depending on the year your X was built you may have to use the 20 pins connector in the engine bay in order to scan all the modules.

It's a 2004 3.0i face lift model. Using the connector under the steering wheel. Would that give me access to all modules?

Yep, you don't have the connector under the hood.

mines a 2002 pre facelift and I have been using my dealers(fiat) snap on machine with the port under the steering wheel. does this mean I need to use out older machine with the round connector to gain access to every code? or does my vehicle just have the one port? im a parts technician by the way not a mechanic just in case your thinking well you should know if you work for fiat. lol but I do get my hands dirty up to my skill limit.

If you have the 20 pins connector in the engine bay, use the 20 pins connector to access all the modules. If you don't have the 20 pins connector, all modules can be access through the OBD II connector under the steering wheel (at least that the location for LHD vehicles).
Seeing that you have a Model Year 2002 I kinda doubt that you will have the 20 pins connector in the engine bay, but I'm not that familiar with Euro Xs. |
Following on from this thread. I have the scanner 1.4 with PASoft. Are there better scanners out there that will give me more detailed answers? such as I have an air suspension issue at the mo, and wondering if another scanner will be able to pinpoint the issue better?
