New wheels!

Got my new wheels on finally, 10.5 all around.

Was going to run 315s all around but shop only had used 315s which were run flats.

I swapped my old rears over (directional) and had them flipped so i get 2x the life out of these.

Fronts i went with a slight stretch 85-90% tread michilen diamaris. Got them for $160 incl mount and balance. Good deal imo.

Looking good brother!! Good to see someone else besides myself running aftermarket wheels, I've been running 22x10.5 on all four corners and lowered, 30mm spacers in the rear for about 4 years now with no problems whatsoever. What brand and model are those? I'm running a set of Niche Nurburg wheels, your wheels look almost exactly like mine...lol!

I usually don't like much deviation from the 87/168s, but i'm diggin his setup! I'd love to see your 22'' setup. Any random shots you could throw up somewhere?

I am assuming those are the 20x10.5 ET20. Brand, STR 607. Those look too aggressive to be the ET35 ones.

Thanks. That is pretty good. I think that offset is perfect for the front. I don't think you could go any further out in the back without raising it up could you?

J.Belknap 12-07-2014 10:23 PM

+35?

How's inside rubbing at full lock? I know 315mm on 10.5 +30 is super close. Wheels look good.

Edit: wait a min... What size tires up front?

SMOKEY53 12-07-2014 11:46 PM

Wheels look similar to Niche M135 Milan's

Right you are. Very similar design:

Niche Milan
http://www.mhtwheels.com/cms_images/..._Face_1000.png

STR 607
http://www.aspecwheels.net/STR/607/S...0SILVER-WM.jpg

STR appears to have that inner lip halfway inside the barrel - hopefully gives it a bit more structural integrity because I reckon you would want to steer clear of any potholes!!

4.8isX5 12-08-2014 12:33 AM

J belk, was going to do 315s like i said but went w slight stretch 275 diamaris. Didnt want rfts.

4.8isX5 12-08-2014 12:34 AM

I ran stock 168s with 25 mm spacer up front and at full lock it would just about slighty scrape dirt/shave the plastic by .5mm on front of tire inner fender.

tmv 12-08-2014 12:53 AM

I like wheels with lip, but those look nice nonetheless.
And you two are NOT the only with aftermarket wheels :nanana:

Ok, so stock tire sizing on 4 10.5 wheels. Gotcha. Well, you'll be ready for some meat up front when it's time to get new tread.

When you do go square tires let us know if it clears inside at full lock. It should, I think... at +35 it's gonna be close tho

Edit: Nice wheels OP... very nice. But is it just me or is there a ton of camber in the front and rear?

Hang on, let me go wipe up the drool!!

Love the CLS and 7!! Those wheels are VERY nice..!

Still wanna see em on the X...

There's not a lot of improvement to be done on the 87s, but I would be hard-pressed to choose between round-edged or square-edged 5 spoke wheels. They're both beautiful!

Really? I was always under the impression if you lowered a vehicle you would automatically change the camber. Not sure if the OP's X is lowered... but to me it certainly looks like there is more camber. I guess it's just the angle of the picture or something playing tricks on me.

Lowering increases camber and toe... This will vary from car make to car make, but definitely affects BMWs!

+1.......Discontinued lightweight Envy wheels 19x9 F 19x10 R. Running Vredestein Ultrac Vorti "summer only" tires on these now.

kgbboris 12-08-2014 12:14 PM

wow! loving the look of the wheels, what do they feel like bump wise without the runflats on? here in the uk the roads are terrible and with runflats makes life unbearable on anything other than smooth brand new surfaces.

TiAgX5 12-08-2014 12:21 PM

On bad roads lightweight 19s is the way to go (more sidewall and lower mass).

The Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires are a best seller in the UK....

ahh sweet! they aren't too expensive either. ive got 4 nearly new continental runflats on my x5 which were put on about 2000 miles ago so may wack them on ebay and buy a set of these! cheers for info, ive got the standard tiger claw sport 19's at minute but would love a set of aftermarket wheels on her

best is NON-RFT tires as they are more smoother ride...i have RFT bridgestone because i get them at my from dealer, they look beefy too but best is the DWS tires only thing is you have to stop once you get a flat.

Not a problem to stop if I get a flat tbh as then at least I know ive got one and can get it repaired or replaced. ive got a spare so all good. I have been offered some winter tyres so may put them on see how they feel as theyre not runflats then if they feel good or better ill sell the runflats and put money towards some decent non runflats in the new year when it warms up a little

Nice! They go well with your X! Would be really awesomd to get an exact match for AEs and parking lights. Do you run with parking lights or did you code them off. Also, did you wire them always on or only with parking lights?

4.8isX5 12-10-2014 11:07 AM

They come on normally w parking lights, i have the signals coded off. Looks much cleaner this way with just angel eyes on and with headlights/fogs on at night it has a cleaner look as well.

I was not literally accusing him of being an indecent human being... as I don't know him personally. I know it reads that way on the internet. It was less an emotional post, and more a satirical observation on what I see happen sometimes on forums. And I think most were asking about his headlights mods rather than his wheel mods. If relaxing is what needs to happen, it's the members hoarding "secrets" because of wanting to be different. This is a car hobby... no one here is the first to do, or think of, or execute something 99.9% of the time. Just help others out and enjoy the fact they liked what you did enough to take the time to ask you about it and compliment you.

That's what I was saying.

I got you and agree with you. Your statement just seemed a little high strung especially considering that all questions got answered.

I'm just trying to lighten the mood a bit because unlike most other forums I frequent or used to frequent this is the only one I enjoy. Don't want to see it get ruined by bickering like bimmerforums did.

Ricky Bobby 12-11-2014 11:01 AM

Guys its pretty simple if you like the amber angel eyes Pat has a quick ebay search will turn it right up, I found a set for $90 from Hong Kong.

I think he was mostly not saying much about it because its really easy to find, sure he could have posted a link but then again you could also PM him too I'm sure he'd help.

Trust me there is a member who used to be active on this forum who used to be helpful when it was beneficial to him and then as soon as you started asking for details stopped responding when he knew he wasn't going to get $$ from you. I've spoken to 4.8isX5 a decent amount in length and he's a good guy, just tryin to be unique, and we exchanged a few pm's/texts and I believe I was one of the ones to tell him to go for the amber angel eyes as its different and would look so euro.

Here's the amber eyes I found with just the search terms "e53 amber angel eyes":

I'm the same way. It's a bit crazy to me. I'm also in a custom home theater forum, you wouldn't BELIEVE the p!$$!ng matches that go on over things like room correction and the price of speaker cable.

Ricky Bobby 12-11-2014 12:15 PM

Can you imagine the conversations in a wine forum with snobby wine broads?

I'm laughing to myself thinking about that one....

LOL

You guys.

crystalworks 12-11-2014 01:54 PM

Do the amber bulbs light frequency get carried through the rings better or something? White LED bulbs in an e39 or e53 light tubes look dim as all get out...

Ricky Bobby 12-11-2014 01:57 PM

Its the optics of the E39/E53 rings, you will get NO ADDITIONAL BRIGHTNESS compared to stock its been discussed a million times, you will just get a crisper light output/color.

If you want additional brightness out of the rings you need to crack the housings open and replace the actual rings themselves.

Yeah, I figured, and am well aware of the light tube's limitations... talked with you about cracking open these permaseals.

Just seemed like these ambers were brighter, but as usual with lighting mod pics... it's usually just the way the photo turns out. Have to admit those ambers do look pretty cool. Still going to do mine white... but going to say those do look good.

Ricky Bobby 12-11-2014 02:27 PM

Oh yeah now I remember, either way I wish you luck, these housings are no joke to open, I have only seen two members that have been opened without cutting.

pnoyako85 12-12-2014 10:51 AM

If you want brighter only way is too Open them Up. Lol. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...4068515725.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...d40ce045eb.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...3f1b558513.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b41175ab98.jpg

I had one headlight that was permasealed. I got it opened without cutting. It was not fun but it can be done with lots of patience and time. In retrospect the upgrade of the headlights and the really bright angel eyes were well worth the effort.

Definitely some nice wheels... very nice. And I don't normally like 5 stars on non-muscle car type vehicles.

mam4.6 12-15-2014 03:47 PM

Did you adjust camber to bring that top out?

mikes123 12-15-2014 04:09 PM

I personally think it would look better if you brought the rear back in 5 or 10mm (not a big fan of poke), but I do love the wheels.

4.8isX5 12-15-2014 04:22 PM

@mam4.6

No, no camber adjusted. Mine actually is already at the most the alignment guy could have brought it in. But since im so lowered its still there.

Winter cleanup? Looks great. Those wheels must be sooooo easy to clean I love em

4.8isX5 12-28-2014 03:50 PM

Haha thanks, and no thats usually how it always looks..

The wheels are nice and easy to keep clean, although they have an open barrel and it takes an extra minute per wheel but the room is there to get it all easy when wiping down. I usually do 2/3 of the barrel because theres a lip inside too which is nice so you dont have to get all the way to end.

Ricky Bobby 12-28-2014 07:45 PM

Pat get yourself a set of Wheel Woolies it is the best and easiest way to clean wheels, best $40 I spent on wheel brushes, gets the whole barrel every time.

Exactly why my used X5 search was limited to silver '03 4.4/4.6 vehicles.

Wanted a late production M62 powered DD that didn't show dirt.

4.8isX5 01-06-2015 03:53 PM

I like silver for that and the fact that the black trim shows way better in comparison to other colors..but you'll never get the amount of paint depth the darker colors have.

Bestvalue

Im running Delinte d8 desert storm all seasons in the back, they were going to be shot soon from camber wear but i had them flip mounted (directional tires) and now ill get 2x the life.

In the front i have michelin diamaris, which im pretty sure are more of a summer tire, but they have soft tread compound.

romeokc10 01-08-2015 01:05 AM

Those good looking vehicles should not have to suffer those brutal winters and salted roads in that hell hole called the North East. They should be out here in sunny California with me where it was sunny and 70 degrees today...lol! Looking good guys!
