Trunk roundel emblem

Hey guys ! Went to the beautifull city of Montreal yesterday and some losers (i guess) stold my trunk BMW emblem 😡....i'm looking on ebay but price goes from $6 to $50 ?? Any advice ?

Thanks a lot !

The cheap ones are just stickers that fall off.

Go to realoem, get the part number, and use that to search for a genuine item.

Ok thanks guys..i have to go to the stealers tomorow for my wife 128i. I'll ask them part and price...

Cheers !

I bought a front from my dealer but only after checking on the price on-line. THey started at 2x the online price but in the end matched. So, I always check on line first now.

bavauto

bavauto if i am not mistaken carries all emblems from recollection for between $5-$20 approximately. If not currently they were a former site sponsor. You could also hit one of the ads on this site that is a sponsor and give them a shot.

Why not check for the correct part/parts yourself first, then go into the dealer armed with the correct part nbr and outside vendor pricing...you may be able to work a better deal if they charge more for the emblem.

And do you need just the rear emblem (#3 in the diagram)...or do you have a Chrome or Titan base option (#4 in the diagram)...and they stole that, too? Also remember you may need new grommets if they stayed with on the nibs of the stolen emblem.

Thanks Q and all !

Q, yes i went to RealOEM.com to get the parts number - the punks did at least a clean job and let the base intact (rear) ..Ah ah just call the stealers today $60 buck for the badge !!! Ironic that i'm paying to put there logo on!?!? I told them this one, at least should be free ....no way:/)....

Q, what is grommet ??

David.X5 12-08-2014 10:37 PM

Lost my front badge this weekend. Wonder if this makes it "a thing".

The badges have a pair (the front is 2) small plastic feet that fit into a snug rubber grommet that fits into the base. Look to see if you have the rubber grommet stuck in the base or if it is just chromed plastic/metal.

There are lots of places to get them, but be suspicious of prices below $25 - no one is selling real ones that cheaply anymore. I just looked it up at BMW of Morristown - rear badge 51141970248 is $26.06 from them. $28.66 at ECS Tuning or $30.64 with the grommets - and they have a how-to video...

It's just Chrome plastic ...

David X was spot on with his answer. The grommets are #2 in the diagram and are the little rubber "feet" that holds the emblem to the hood and trunk.

If the old ones are still stuck down in the holes...you may want to still get new ones because reusing the old ones is kinda like reusing a condom...they will be stretched and not perform their job as well as the first time. :D

And just like a condom...you may need to lubricate them to get them on the small nibs of the emblem...as well as into the holes in your tailgate or hood.

Ah ah ok got it - Q ur very creative with that metaphor 😊...i'll got the part tomorow - will let u know !!

Whitecat 12-10-2014 09:26 PM

Got the part today - from the dealer $60.00 came with no "condom" 😜...only a 3M tape and the pin goes right in the hole (was no grommets in...) ...

David.X5 12-10-2014 09:54 PM

You need a new dealer!! If they are going to charge 100% over list price, it ought to include the &$&!$&! grommets.

Part number is 51141807495. You need two. They cost $0.50 to $1.00 each depending on the source - shipping is often much worse... Check Amazon or Ebay as you can probably find a pair with free shipping for around $4 (for genuine parts).

Tx man... This is one of the biggest dealer in Canada...and probably the biggest steal ...$60 for an embleme....

You don't need grommets for the rear roundel only the front. Rear attaches with double sided tape.

Learned something new...especially since I've never had to replace a rear Roundel on an X5. Every rear Roundel I've had to replace (e32) 735iL, (e34) 525iT, and e39 540iT...the Roundel required grommets...even the e39 with its smaller size Roundel vs the hood's emblem.

Thanks for that tidbit...will have to add that to my mental rolodex. :D

NP Q glad to bestow some knowledge since you do so much!

I only remembered because I had to get both roundels when I got my X (old ones faded chipping) and thought it was weird no grommets on the rear, but I just cleaned the area and stuck it in place (there are little "feet" that go into holes so it wont be crooked) it and its been fine for 3 years now.

...and again, I'm very appreciative of the knowledge you shared.

The day I can't learn anything more...it would be time to go.
