04 X5 4.4i a few issues Im trying to work out...Need Help!

Got the smoking at idle and all the oil and power steering leaks figured out but now I'm getting a P2184 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low Service Engine Light and Hard shifting from a stop or slow moving traffic!?!

While working on other things I accidently pulled the Coolant Sensor on the lower radiator hose while working on a few other things but I put it back in but lost a bit of coolant so I topped it off and thought I was good until I drove the car most of all day yesterday and noticed that kept coming on. I don't see any leaks and will double check to make sure its plugged in securely but I'm just wondering if I need to bleed the system? Once I delete the code I can drive fine no issues but eventually it comes back?

Second issue I noticed when I come to a stop or slowing down in traffic and when I start to accelerate if I go a little to fast it shifts extremely hard only in 1st gear. So I've been extremely careful while accelerating and go extremely slow at first. This doesn't seem right? Also during acceleration its very slow but once again I'm not accelerating like I usually would due to the hard shifting / clunking I get!

Yesterday has been the first day I've driven it all day since I purchased this car so I cant really say how it was before and after.

Any help would be grateful!

I had hard 1-2 shifts when I picked mine up at 180,000km. Did the tranny fluid, filter, sleeve and reset the transmission. Never had an issue with the shifts since. Butter smooth shifting. You need to make sure you fill at the correct temperature and do the reset. I plan on doing mine every 50,000km or so.

For the coolant, make sure all air is out and that sensor is plugged in proper.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know that other encountered the same issue but was able to resolve it with a fluid change. Ill have to look into that. Do you happen to know what part #'s off the top of your head?

As for the coolant Ill look into it tomorrow. Didn't have time today. Ill probably reseat it and see if that helps.

I got a kit from ECS with the BMW fluids, filter and gasket. I had ordered the kit, then they contacted me and said they couldn't get the pan gasket in time to ship. I picked a BMW one up locally.

I had a problem with shifts in my '05 4.4. I'd get a "slow creep" hard shift (when going slow in a parking lot) and a "whack" like you got rear-ended if you did a touch-and-go just-right at a stop sign. The motor would rev a bit - then "wham"

In my case I asked my Indy to update the transmission control software. This solved about 95% of the problem maybe 25k miles ago. It made a huge difference for me.
