SelfLevel Sus Inactive cause?
I can not find an answer to this. SelfLevel Susp Inactive warning with TPS warning light on as well. Can uneven worn tires cause the Selflevel Suspension to stop working? Several months back I had to replace one rear tire due to a puncture. The other side was newish but not quite new but no where near ready to replace. Also at the time I didn't have money to replace both. So one side has more tread than the other.
Has 77K on the clock now. Already had my friend, who is a BMW mechanic, reset my air suspension system. He said that there were no indications that any of the sensors were out. Error came back after a couple of days. Battery is only a couple months old - replaced in Sept or Oct with a battery reset. Thanks. |
Have your checked for error codes?
|
Well, my mechanic when he reset the system said there were no codes that pointed to anything specific. I guess i will have to have him scan it again.

Uneven worn tires will not cause self leveling to become inactive.
You could try resetting the TPS system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zh8o1axQ_U |
if the system has wording in the cluster about the suspension - there are codes... otherwise, there would be no wording... The tool that reads OBDII codes is not capable of reading the BMW specific codes. the SLS codes are relatively specific - probably you have a slow leak at reservoir... there are repair kits on ebay, coming from UK, about $30 delivered to US, the repair is about 1-2 hours, depending on your skills and tools...

I have had great luck with my cable/software from the romanian guy on ebay, the software and cable were tricky to set up, (but he helped via computer teleconference) since then , its help me diagnose all kinds of little things in my X5
it was pretty economical too, if i recall around $60 delivered to my door! i spent more on my obd2 scanner! good luck, check the fuse in the back above your Subwoofer / or right rear taillight. |
the x that i service back when I was in PR. When they had suspension inactive was because of the compressor. That said with a scan tool you dump any pressure on the reservoir and let the compressor build up pressure and time it. but because you don have the tool to manipulate the compressor... I guest you have to time the compressor or check for the fuse.
is it siting? |
i've had SLS message, i have reset it several times as I did not have time to mess with it, until one day, instead of resetting, i looked into INPA readout, it said pressure in reservoir was not plausible, or something to that effect... that type of error pointed to specific issue that could be rectified with the repair kit, took me about an hour to get it fixed, no error since then...
You may consider the INPA software package that RFaber mentioned, from the romanian guy - very good investment, as the errors come with explanation (that explanation sometimes calls for more explanation!!)... |
