06 BMW X5 3.0i Blown Motor Help!!

So, my X5 over heated and now the motor needs to be replaced. Only had 68k miles =( My question is, will any M54 3.0 motor work in my truck?

I want to swap a new motor in myself. Are there any pointers you guys can give me?

Any places you guys recommend I could find a good motor?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

I was under the impression the awd block was different from the rwd block. But that could just be the oil pan. I'd do some reading up on 330xi/325xi engine swaps. It'll probably be pretty similar. As far as the 330xi m54b30 and the x5 m54b30 being the same, I don't know.

IIRC any M54 B30 will work but you will need to use your oil pan.

You should check your production date to determine if you have a M54 or N52 engine. Or upload a picture of your engine.

I will continue to do more research. I hope all I need to do is swap the oil pan

OP mentioned that he has an 06 X5. He never mentioned that he has a E53, E70 with N52 came out at the end of 2006.

Yes, even though, the E70 came out at the end of 2006, it would have been a 2007 Model Year. But your suggestion of checking the production date was wise and would have been conclusive . I just assumed everyone goes by Model Year - Too much of an assumption on my part ;)
