When you turn the truck off and restart it the "Trans Fail Prong" message should go off and the truck should start off normally. If the "Trans Fail Prong" is always on and the truck is always in limp mode it's probably NOT the neutral switch. Try turning the key on and off 10 times and see if it clears the code. |
i will try that right now i will get back to you in 20 mins after i try it lol hope it works i really dont wanna get rid on my X5 lol
|
ok well i tried it turn on and off 10 times and nothing and i cant scan it i need to go to the shop for that lol .. but it still get the trans failsafe prog msg as soon as i go over 2000 rpm

I don't know then....I had thought it happened like the TSB stated. |
:( well i guess back to stage one or i just got to sell the truck as is
|
It's electrical.......keep checking ALL connectors and switches.
Like I said in one of the first posts practically anything can make the Trans Fail prong come on from bad wheel bearings, bad alternator, bad mass air flow meter, antilock break booster and so on so you need a trained tech to keep looking into it. You may have a bad trans but I don't think so. You can only diagnose commonly known issues on boards like these. Something that is one off or one of a kind you need a real good BMW teck to look at hands on. I don't have any test equipment but maybe other guys here can chime in on the last set of codes you got and what they mean. |
yeah i really hope someone here can help me out it's driving me crazy .. i dont know if i should just go to the dealer but i think they will just say i need a new transmission
|
Most likely a speed sensor is not in synch with the engine rpm or speed of the drive train.
|
really because i did also get a code for 113 signal, camshaft position sensor, bank 1 ..
and im not sure if that is the speed sensor |
I had fail safe prong go on and truck wouldn't shift... but it is due to alternator being soaked in oil from VC and TC oil leaks (voltage dropping too low). As soon as I shut off the ignition and turned it back on all was good again.
I know it doesn't help your situation, but just wanted to reinforce that all kinds of things can cause a "limp mode" condition in these. |
