1 Attachment(s)
Hello too all i just wanted to double check with you guys and see what you guys have to say .. as the title say i got the tans failsafe prog msg the other day went i to the shop today and i got 4 codes shop telling me transmission is done :(
049 symptom, gear monitoring 053 gear monitoring 3 059 stall speed 050 gear monitoring 1 any advice or help would be great thanks :) |
I don't know what year and model you have. On my 02 4.4 the message came up and went in limp mode. It did this if the Truck idled in park for more than 5 mins. If you restated it.. it was fine.
I unplugged the wire to the Neutral safety switch, sprayed it with WD-40 and never had the problem since. I also found out on the 00-01 there was a TSB that the neutral safety switch causes the same issue so I change it anyway. Even though my 02 was not in the TSB range it was the same problem. The neutral switch allowed dirt to get in a corrode the contacts. Way not check all the connections for corrections first. That was my problem. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...psd407cb74.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps879c11cd.jpg |
I had the trans failsafe prog come on just as the message and no other lights not sure if you had other lights pop on your dash but i did not it ended up being a bad maf sensor.

Is the truck going into Limp mode?
Stars in 3rd gear and stays there and will not shift. |

Change the inhibitor switch or neutral safety switch. Their is a TSB or recall, call the dealer first and see if they will change it for free. If not buy the new switch, it's easy to put on.

well when i first got the car i called the dealer and gave my vin number and asked them if my x5 had and recalls they said no.. and if i switch this part what are the chances thats the problem or should i have the shop look at it first before i order that $300 part lol

My car was at an independent BMW shop....they wanted to replace the trans solenoids when that happened....it took me a day searching and I found the TSB or recall..cant remember...but I had them clean the connector and it worked. I did change the Neutral Switch because that was supposed to be replaced on the TBS..the switch's glue would separate letting moisture in.
The system said when it idled for a prolong time the "trans Prong Fail" would appear and the trans would stick in 3rd...slow to take off then wind out. Try spraying the shit out of the switch and connectors first, take the connectors apart...that should solve the problem but it will come back when it gets dirty. I cant find the TSB...it's out there. Almost anything on these cars will make the "Trans Prong Fail" to come on from wheel bearings, anti-lock brakes, mass air flow, alternator....and so on. If you can get away with a repair under $1,000 your doing well with this money pit BMW made. BMW E53 X5 M62 4.4L Drivetrain Automatic Transmission - 24107512755 - Transmission Gear Indicator Switch - ES#44516 I hope the owner before you did the valley pan coolant leak...Valve cover gaskets and timing chain guides replaced. $8k if your lucky to repair ...be aware of this Oh the radiator and overflow tank will just come apart soon if they haven't already. |
