Suspension Sag RH Side
After driving home from Tahoe last night I parked the X5 and noticed the suspension is sagging seriously on the passenger side. This must have happened at some point on the ride home because it looked perfectly level earlier yesterday before I departed. There also was some serious steering wheel wobble when exiting the highway (more than normal at relatively low speed ~30-40mph). Ever since I put 20" wheels / tires on there has been a slight wobble in the steering wheel around 60mph on certain surfaces.
The sag is very noticeable in the front - so thinking whatever it is (bad shock?) it must be on the passenger front corner. I wasn't able to take a pic from the front but you can definitely see it leaning from the rear (click for full resolution): https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-J...xt%253DJPG.jpg Also the gaps in the wheel wells on the passenger side are substantially smaller - by maybe 2x (actually loving the look tho!): https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J...xt%253DJPG.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-m...xt%253DJPG.jpg Than the driver side: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Z...xt%253DJPG.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-g...xt%253DJPG.jpg She just rolled over 95Kmi yesterday. All of the suspension components with the exception of the front lower control (thrust) arm bushings are original (those were replaced with aftermarket bushings around 2008 which didn't correct the steering wheel wobble btw neither did new tires and laser road force mount/balance). Haven't had a chance yet to inspect more closely - wouldn't be surprised to see the shock leaking. I'll likely put her up on the ramp soon. If I am going to replace the shocks thinking about going with lowering springs as well. Kind of sucks I just spent $250.00 on a 4 wheel alignment looks like I'm going to have to get another one done :( Thoughts?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. This truck has been a bag of problems lately between this and the transmission crap. I think I am going to have bite the bullet and have it towed to the indy mechanic in the south bay... |
Well I don't believe you are equipped with Sport Package judging by your window trims correct? Your right side looks like stock Sport ride height.
You dont have full air suspension so its not that. Maybe the sag in the front has triggered the height sensor to compensate on the rear? |
I think I do have sport package. The front is coil overs (shocks / springs) and the rear is air suspension (air bags). I'm guessing your saying the driver rear bag may be over compensating causing that side to be higher?
Is there a way to force it to reset / level? The rear driver bag actually has a slow pinhole leak so will be interesting to see what it looks like when I return from my trip next week as it will have fully deflated. Hopefully it will just go back to normal then... |
