Do the valley pan and pipe gasket while you have everything apart. Also the back pipe gasket and OSV too. I have the parts list for 4.6is if you need it.

PROBLEM:
.................................
Hooked up laptop to Bavarian Technic cable & got:-

Did a error code test and got:
0021 Camshaft Control,
007 D Temp Sensor rad outlet (was replaced-aftermarket),
0073 Hot film air mass,
008C output thermostat map cooling,
0050 Secondary air system,
now 48 Torque converter too much slip

Don't know what to do. Thank you in advance.

So in addition to the chain guides, looks like you gonna have trouble with the trans or TC. Time to move on.

This comes down to the overall condition of the 4.6is.

Has it been used up? Is the body and/or chassis rusting? is the interior worn out/trashed/torn?

If it's in excellent to good condition, repair the motor, rebuild the transfer case & find a take-out used trans from a crashed one (or blown motor X).

If it's been abused and shows it, part it out or sell it.

Jleecare, would be real helpful if u can send me the parts list.

( Also got to check the chain tensioner...maybe maybe?? wishing)

Harleyclass2>> I will snap a picture of my invoice and send over to you tomorrow morning. You can keep your old chain and tensioner. When I did my at 147K miles the chain and tensioners still in good shape. No need to spend money for it. If your tranny still in good shape. I would do the repair since your only at 100K...a lot more life left for that 4.6er...it is not that hard for the job...just time a lot time for preps and organize. I will get you some helpful diy links in second!

Thx Jleecare. Ok pl send parts list tomorrow.

(Is there any possibility that the chain tensioner is gone bad and so the clanking sound ?)

Jleecare 01-30-2015 12:31 AM

Just pull the oil pan to verify. Only take couple hours most!!!

Jleecare 01-30-2015 12:42 AM

Or you can pull out the oil filter....you might find the filter filled with tiny metal from the chain grinding to the timing cover.
