Other diagnostic tools apart from Scanner 1.4\PASoft
 

Guys, what other diagnostic tools are there to troubleshoot issues with BMW's, in particular, X5's (e53)?

I've used Carsoft 6.5 in the past. I use Torque with an ELM 327 bluetooth adapter that I keep in the car whenever I'm about and don't have my laptop with me, but have my smartphone.

I have used the DIS software

This covers up to 2012. He has a cheaper offering as well that should cover the E53's. I needed software for a 2008 535i so I had to get this package.

Would this give me better visibility on air suspension issues? I have found the pasoft option, not that great. I heard someone chatting about a tool that will run step by step checks, but cant remember what tool it was.

This is pretty much dealer software.

I have AutoEnginuity with BMW enhanced option. It's very powerfull scan tool although I still didn't master all of its capabilities. It will read, diagnose and clear any engine, airbag or ABS/DSC/ASC code.
It can also display up to 9 different sensor readings and it can also initiate numerous systems.
For example, if you're suspecting bad Air emission pump, it can send a command to start it instead of messing with wires.
Another nice out many features, is the ability to read exact tranny temp which comes in handy while refilling fluid.
