Oil cap pressure?
so on my 2006 with the 3.0 today I started smelling burnt oil from inside the car. When I got home I open the hood and saw a small amount of oil coming out of the fill cap. Reading around I think there should be negative pressure on the cap but instead mine has positive. I put my hand over the fill hole and can start to feel pressure PUSHING my hand up while the car is running. No smoke coming out of the tailpipe, no loss of power, engine oil level is in middle of dipstick. Anyone have any ideas on what might be the cause. Only thing I can think of is a plugged PCV?

you should have vac. there, not pressure! Might need to replace the crank case ventilation system.

That did not work out very well. I wanted to agree with Post #2, not pile onto Post #1. If the oil filler cap is removed while the engine is running, there should be vacuum on the open hole, not pressure. Crankcase ventilation is the usual suspect for pressure. |
