Transport Mode on 02 X5

Previously posted battery died and now the only things the key will do is open the tailgate and lock the doors manually...no interior lights, no central locking. Seems my car has gone into transport mode. Called the dealer in town (Champaign, IL) and they said they've never heard of it and I would need to pay $129 for a diagnostic. Tried all the things the web said to do...disconnect battery etc. but to no avail. Anyone have any other ideas please? I've seen some threads where you can use a GT1 or INPA to reset

Thanks

Gary

I know you can take it out of transport mode, but i have never tried it.just what I have been reading on the net.

You can take out of transport mode with diag software. Any shop with DIS or auto logic can do it

Just some FYI about transport mode:

I might be in the same boat. I had my battery disconnected for 24+ hours while I was installing my tow hitch over the weekend. Anyway - the car started making beeping noises and the interior tailgate lights were flashing - I figured it was a low battery warning or some sort, so I disconnected the battery.

Anyway - now my key-fob won't work to lock/unlock the car. It starts fine, it's just that the key doesn't work. I tried a procedure to "turn the key" back and forth several-times, then hold buttons down, etc - but that didn't seem to work.

Did my car go into some sort of mode, or do I need to do something to re-initialize the key+car connection?

The folowing is a BMW service order before any coding is done.
Disconnect both cables from battery (-negative first) ,put a cloth over battery terminals (precaution ,incase cables come loose and touch terminals).Join both cables (+and -) and leave approx .30 mins Connect Positive + first and then Negative. You have now reset all your modules .Usually works but if it doesnt ,you do need DIS dealer coding.

You need to reinitialize the key, and if you have two remote fobs, you need to reinitialize the second fob as well.

Yeah. I found instructions for that this morning! Worked like a champ! Beep-beep / click-click.....

For the Original Poster, when you replaced the battery you didn't happen to install the new battery backward? I had a neighbor who installed a battery backward in his Rolls Royce. Blew out something which prevented the battery after it was installed correctly from powering up anything in the Rolls including the lights. I have a brother who has a PHd degree in math install a battery backward in his Nissan. Blew out the computer brain to the car. Replaced the brain for him and the car started fine. It just take a split second when the cables are installed in reverse order to blow something out in the car. I would look at the fusible links.

Any luck with having the transport mode removed? I have the same issue. Tried disconnecting the battery and joining the cables but no luck. I don't think this is the key issue - I can still open the trunk. Thanks
