Pulled a 335xi out of snow today...
today I was drove home to find my neighbor had drove her 335xi off of the driveway into there yard that was covered in 1.5-2 feet of snow. Unbelievable lol... I helped pull her car out. This consisted of grabbing a 10' rigging sling 2 shackles and hooking the bmw eye bolts in both our vehicles. I had her floor it in reverse while I drove and pulled her out. It worked!!!! However, when I shifted into reverse their was a CLUNK and then the car went into gear... I have been driving the car all day and everything seems normal. I feel stupid for doing this now because I feel as if I did some beating on my auto tranny. Has anyone else used there X5 to pull someone out??? I hope this nice favor I did doesn't land me with a blown transmission down the road....maybe I'm paranoid lol!!!

You did a good deed. Hope everything is fine with your ride.

If there ends up being a problem with the vehicle it is unlikely the result of this help you provided to your neighbor. At least it doesn't sounds as if you were beating on the vehicle when pulling her car out.

You have a pin that blocks the transmission from spinning. That pin is used always when the car is in park mode. If your car is on a 45 degree slope and you push it in drive or reverse you will here like a clunk. That's the sound of the pin releasing the tranny. If something went wrong i think that you would have felt it in that moment.

I have an electric winch that I can attach to the ball of my trailer hitch that I can use to winch cars out of snow bank, although I brought it primary for loading and unloading my boat.
