New Propel HPR available in NorCal I'm not one of those people who stresses over fuel, but one thing that it is very noticeable for me is that my US X5 35d is noticeable louder at idle than my dad's EU 325d... It seems the knocking is more subdued... I blame the different fuel available in Italy and Switzerland over the US. I'm not interested in steering up yet another debate and what's better or worse and why and the how and all that... But in any case, if anyone out there has a 35d and lives in NorCal, I'd very intrigued to know if this diesel HPR form Propel is any different: Propel Diesel HPR I'm not about to drive up to Fresno to try it so hopefully they bring it down to us at some point. We have a few Propel stations, but none close by me has diesel, just E85. I have used their B20 many many time when I'm in Chula Vista or Kearny Mesa and never noticed any noticeable difference |

We do have a couple gas stations (link) in Seattle area, but they seem to be selling biodiesel. Due to perceived negatives of it (low lubricity, clogged fuel filters, lower mpg), I am trying to avoid biodiesel. Bug looks like Propel in Cali is switching away from biodiesel. Diesel HPR? First time I hear about it. A quick search on the web turns out things like Quote:

It seems they are starting in their SanFran & SacTown stations. Again, just curious for some real life feedback not theory of this over that: 75 cetane number is a massive difference and should be noticeable in terms of engine noise and what they claim in reduction of NOx and soot are big enough to translate in measurable differences in DEF consumption, EGR rate and possible and less frequent regens... All leading to better fuel economy. I get the theory... But that's just it, a theory... I can give you my feedback about B20 which are pretty much uneventful: at one point the local Mohsen station (family owned retailer, always cheapest in town) had B20 and probably run it for 1000+ miles. Didn't notice anything... They then went back to B5 because people were sketched out. |

But seriously, Cetane rating is 75. California has a minimum of 53..that is significant. Looks like a few near me...I'll have to steal the wifes car and fill it up one of these days... |

Regarding the smell, at one point the garbage trucks in Italy started using 100% biodiesel made from rapeseed oil (I believe it was Montedison who started pushing it); the exhaust smelled like french fry... |

Ehi guys, I've found this on a Ram forum: Diesel HPR? If you read past all the internet chemist there you'd actually see some real feedback from people saying that the truck is more quiet... |
