2011 X5 50i Conversion to M Package
 

Hi All - new to the Xoutpost community and will be purchasing a 2011 Space Gray X5 50i and I would like to convert it to M Package. Can I do this and where do I start? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It would be easier and cheaper to just find a vehicle with the M Package. What do you think comes in that package?

Hi Ian - I'm getting a great deal and it only has 16,000 miles on the odometer. I already think I would like to get the 333M wheels and Continental all-season tires. I suppose I'll need the front and rear bumper, side skirts and fender flares. To save money I won't be tackling the interior bits, although the dark anthracite headliner is tempting. Is the suspension the same, can I leave it alone if it is different?

Whatever deal you're getting/$ you're saving will likely be spent doing this conversion, making it a wash. But just for fun, here's what comes to mind…

Body kit - front and rear bumpers, side skirts
Either 223M or 333M wheels
Self leveling suspension (unless you have 3rd row, then you'd have this already)
Fender flares, painted body color, if you don't at least have the SAV
Brushed aluminum roof rails
Brushed aluminum M Sport dead pedal
M Sport steering wheel (and a new airbag if you don't have the SAV)
///M door sills
Anthracite headliner
Shadowline exterior trim
Paint your current door edge guards body color

Might be something else I'm missing…

Maybe OP just wants it to LOOK like an M kit, not really everything.

I look at every one of these posts- no matter what marque- where people want to duplicate some factory version "on the cheap" and it is a total waste of money AND losing proposition. WHen it comes time to (a) talk to someone that knows what they are talking about, or (b) resell the car, and you start with "I did all the mods to make this a factory XYZ" you are already a loser.

To expand upon what ARD has put in. Anyone that knows anything will use the VIN decoder and if the seller says it has package X and the VIN decoder says it doesn't, people will pay accordingly as well as ask questions. To the right buyer, you might make more money over a stock, the other group, you will get less money.

To the OP, have you even priced any of the components out? BMW parts are not cheap!

Of course, the OP may only want to do this to make his X5 the way he likes, not for a financial investment ;)

When you buy a "body kit" this comes unpainted...so you then need to install it and paint it, blending the work to get the color and metallic right. That alone is a few $$thousand done perfectly. Headlinber another $1000. Shadowline trim another $800...

Seems a bit silly to me. Sorry. Think of the dude in the Honda Accord with the primered body kit. That's what it will always be deep down. And it's going to run you at least $5K and most likely more.

Just search around for the right car. It took a 3 month nationwide search to find my X5 MSport and I purchased it from a dealer 800 miles sight unseen - except a 30 minute facetime session to check out the car. It was only 19 months old so completely covered by warranty and maintenance. I sent a check and had it freighted up here to MD. It was exactly what I wanted and I never left my house.

Car buying in the 21st century has changed. Set up searches in all the online classifieds and the right one will come along.
