Fell Off The X... :)

This big heavy thing fell off the X5 yesterday. I think it's the DPF? Car seems to run much better though. :)

Who pipe did you use and what tuning?

From here... BimmerOEM!, Your only source for Quality used OEM parts

What about SCR system?i mean catalytic converter and urea injection?

Lambeau 04-22-2015 07:17 PM

The CAT somehow fell off too. DEF stuff is still there but the computer is reprogrammed not to inject it. Maybe all that stuff will fall off too one day.

ninja_zx11 04-23-2015 12:09 AM

Did you feel any difference in the exhaust noise? and did you have to send the DDE to reflash?

Lambeau 04-23-2015 07:03 AM

It's slightly louder than stock but I have an M6 with all 4 CATS off and all mufflers removed running straight pipes so a little noise doesn't bother me. Yes, the computer gets sent in to have it reprogrammed.

ninja_zx11 04-23-2015 09:16 AM

Thanks and keep us posted how it goes or if you face any problem. There must be increase in fuel economy as well.

Lambeau 04-23-2015 11:31 AM

I can already tell that there's a significant increase in MPG's just based on the computer read-out. The X feels 1000 pounds lighter just in how it reacts to any amount of throttle. THIS is what this engine was designed for, NOT be choked by a very restrictive medium immediately after the turbo. Currently have the stock muffler still on but am considering an aftermarket or no muffler. I'll start documenting everything including sound levels with different stages.

Of course this is intended for off-road use only.

If I pay for shipping would you send it to me? I'm working on something...

Lambeau 04-23-2015 07:17 PM

Eventually I'll list it on Ebay so I can offset some of the cost for the pipe I purchased. Sorry, I don't want to just give it away.

^ Really?

I tend to keep OE parts in case they are ever needed for (a) sale or (b) compliance.

Amen to that. I learned the hard way, back in my early 20s when I modded the crap out of my Subaru. I was relatively broke, so I sold all my stock parts to supplement the costs, but when it came time to sell the Subie, I was scrambling to find stock pieces to replace the add-ons I had there. Never again, stock pieces always stay with me because you just never know :)

We have no emissions testing in Wisconsin except in the evil city of Milwaukee. I'll give the X and my modded M6 to my son and grandkids to enjoy vs. selling it anyway.

Thank goodness. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. (NOT Thomas Jefferson).

Update On Delete

Almost 5 years and now at 202,000 miles and never an issue on this X since the delete. Same trans also and haven't changed the filter since I was at less than 100,000 miles. Used the lowest cost filter I could find on Bay and Pentosin fluid.

thanks for the update, nice to see everything is as it should be. Should be going through emissions this week, then its delete and tune time!!!

Great to hear! But- you should really look into doing the trans fluid, filter (built into the pan) and the bridge and cylindrical seals. Shift quality will GREATLY improve. Then, do yourself a huge favor and look into Rod Sutphin's trans tune. The deletes let the X run right, but the trans tune makes it DRIVE how it should have been from the factory. No more sloshy slushbox, and no more terrible cold start trans tune that revs out 2nd gear.

I've got 249.6k miles on my X5, last 35k on it have been deleted and tuned, including trans tune.

Any noticeable same conditions when it holds? Same part of a commute or uphill? Mine has always annoyingly held gears when going even slightly uphill under certain conditions. Even after dealer replacement under warranty for other reasons the same condition persisted. That and the annoying jumpy launch under certain hot weather conditions.

I think people are talking about the warm up procedure, where it tends to hold second gear a lot longer than seems appropriate when the engine is cold :dunno:

Either way, sounds like a Trans tune could make you happier. It's on my list, so no personal experience to share at this point unfortunately..

I have certain uphills that are a bit brutal when the trans is in cold no lockup mode, that I drive nearly every day. Then in warmed up, normal mode, I mostly don't have issues with the sutphin tune. there's one particular place where I wish it would shift up and load up on some boost, but it's kind of on the edge of the lower torque limits in 3rd gear so I get why it doesn't. It's a sharp uphill turn that I'd bog 3rd in a manual tranmission, but an auto refuses to bog through at 1000 rpm.
